    Sak Sakakawe Walleye in December

That’s awesome! Did the same yesterday and got my 5 in a couple hours. Was a beautiful day for sure. Caught mine in 18-22’. The air bladder was still puffy when I filleted them.

    Ford F250 - 7.3 vs. 6.7

I just bought a new ford with the 7.3. Gotta say I’m impressed. Gas mileage is better than I thought it would be and really like the 10 speed tranny. Doesn’t address your diesel ? But I am impressed with the gasser.

    Open water. Are you ready?

At the cabin this weekend at Douglas. Bay is wide open and a couple boats out. Looks like most of the main lake is open as well. Last of the ice in the bay was gone this morning. Damn the water needs to come up tho. She is low.

    Fishing Plan This Year

I’ve had great success using hair jigs early the last few years on Sak. I tie up my own patterns but a 1/8 oz hair jig pitched up shallow can really work well . Better than plastics most days for me. I just lift and let swim back down on a tight line. Slow and smooth until the water gets a...

    Any Birders here?

Ditto on the robins. Holy crap never seen so many at once. Had hundreds in my yard and trees in Minot all this week. Because of the weather it has been a very condensed migration this year. Interesting for birding.

    Your Most Expensive Fishing Rod

Ya it cost a bit to get set up, but I’ve built for more than just me. The price I threw out of $200-250 is for the highest end blanks out there. I can build a nice rod for less. I’ve done quite a few builds for friends and family too. It’s a hobby and hobbies cost as everyone on this site is...

    Your Most Expensive Fishing Rod

I build my own so haven’t bought a rod off the shelf for years. I look at them tho. Still prefer custom built with MHX elite or Rainshadow blanks. Materials to build run about $200-$250

    Bismarck guy looking to learn

Fly fishing for pike is awesome. I caught a 43” pike and a couple other 40’s last year in Canada. Also caught a 26” walleye. It was a hoot. Don’t be afraid to try. YouTube is full of good info.

    Bites of the Past

The late fall of ‘96 at the tailrace. Late October and November until almost Thanksgiving was incredible for numbers and size walleyes. I didn’t keep a lot of fish because so many were too big to keep, but landed conservatively 40 fish from 6-9 lbs. I fished off the rocks from shore and had...

    Whoopers

    Sak Turnover Walleye on Sakakawea

I thought that a turnover would erase the thermocline? Cold water on top mixing with the warmer water below. I’m not sure I really know if Sak does or not. I fished eastern portion last week and found fish anywhere from 10 to 30’. Something has changed. Water temp was 53-54 degrees
