    I just don’t think the line rating is the issue here. Something else seems wrong. I often use 12 lb mono and have never had an issue like that. I use a baitcaster for medium sized swimbait a lot.

    That has more to do with water levels than anything. When the lake is down the smelt concentrate more in the lower 1/3 of the lake. With it this high they are spread out pretty good and so are the walleyes.
