    October 2019 Snowpocalypse

I'm gunning for Saturday morning in the marsh. I can't miss the chance to get some edge birds. Then again, they all my blow the F out of here and I'll get to watch the snow fall on the decoys. Either way, I can't wait.

    Plenty wet over here.

I don't think those European models are worth a hill of beans. Seems to me we've seen some high-fetched totals in the past and they're totally blown out of proportions. I think they might get lucky once in awhile, but I take their prognostications with a heaping dose of salt.

    Plenty wet over here.

I had a customer remind me that this happened almost exactly a year ago. I totally forgot. I think we would up with just under a half inch of snow in Fargo. Less in GF.

    New waterfowl ammo~

I dunno...if I couldn't decoy birds inside 30 yards, and instead had to buy expensive shotgun shells so I could sky blast them at 50-plus yards, I probably would take up another hobby. But that's because, to me at least, waterfowling is about fooling and getting them to cup and commit...

I'm just glad I bought a duck boat. Going to really break it in this fall!

    Too much stuff.

The thing about "stuff" is too often we think that we're keeping it because someone else may want it. In reality, we're transferring the responsibility/burden of decision making to someone else. So, grandma and grandpa can't part with 70 years worth of collected "stuff" because, well, the kids...

What is your best photos for the year so far

Haha you got that right! Best way to spend my hard earned money. Better than on cheap beer and pull taps, that's for damn sure.

What is your best photos for the year so far

My 3-year-old's first hunt, and my 6-year-old's fourth season afield. Great start to fall. Memories were made!

    Too much stuff.

No, you're winning. Trust me. When my grandparents on dad's side moved out of their home and into assisted living, we had to go through a metric shit-ton of mismatched bolts, nuts, washers, screws, nails -- basically every fastening device known to man -- that were "organized" in no fewer than...

    Wife’s 2019 Bull Moose - Bow Kill

Loved reading that! I gotta think that bean-fed/corn-fed moose has to be up there with the best tasting wild four-legged critters in north America. In gradeschool I got to try moose meat from a bull shot in the BWCA of Minnesota. Thought it was darn good eating. I can't imagine what something...

    Duck 101: How to prepare

I forgot I wrote this! I actually made a huge batch of teriyaki duck legs this weekend to empty my freezer, and they're already gone. The kids ate until they darn near popped, and me and the wife had the scraps. I think I had 48 legs altogether. Can't wait for Saturday to refill our stocks!

    Two Brothers Killed on ATVs

Read that. Absolutely tragic. Don't drink and drive, folks. Even ATVs.

Seems in the past that a wet fall is followed by a dry, cold winter.

    MWA Dispanding after 52 years

The Des Moines Water Works actually attempted to sue three northern districts because of how bad the downstream water quality was. A judge threw it out and said it was up to the legislature to decide. In a grossly agricultural state like Iowa, who do you think lines their pockets?? Clearly...

Numbers are in: Up, Up, Up

We already do! You smart sumbitches capped your NR duck hunters numbers a while back and all the rest come here for some damn reason. Makes no earthly sense.

    MWA Dispanding after 52 years

Basically nonexistent here in the east. Nothing but pigeons and coots. Better off going out to Gackle. Or up by Devils Lake.

Clearly, South Dakota is still the place to be to shoot pheasants. I mean, it's pretty obvious.

Numbers are in: Up, Up, Up

I get that when you're at zero, the only way to go is up. but I'm still excited. I think this at least gives hope for this fall and maybe more falls to come. Pheasant, Sharptail and Partridge Numbers Up Mon, 09/09/2019 North Dakota’s roadside surveys conducted in late July and August...
