    Squirrel season extended

I would poo-poo squirrel hunting, too, however it's gotten HUGE in Minnesota, mostly thanks to the growing Hmong community. They hunt the dickens out of those buggers. We might get a little tourism jump during some odd months if the word gets out on this. At least, if there really are huntable...

    Damn Wind!

If I had to keep a garbage can in a confined space, like the garage, I'd be more concerned about the smell. As it stands, we have an outside location that allows it's unique funk to blow wherever the wind takes it. Ideally to the south where our shitty neighbor lives. I get a certain sense...

    Popped my cherry last night

My little sis snagged me when she was about a year old. Dad had the bright idea of putting a hook on the Snoopy Pole despite my mama's better judgement. Sis likely would have been just dandy casting nothing but a bobber. But, no, dad had other ideas. Our fault for standing behind her. Sis got...

    Damn Wind!

You know folks are bored when they dig up a 4-year-old thread about how windy it is in North Dakota. That's like resurrecting a debate how wet the ocean is.

    Sandy flesh walleyes

Pretty sure you can pickle that and make it palatable.

    Fillet Knives

Got a Leech Lake Knife for Christmas a few years back. Took some getting used to (the sharp edge on the top can give a nasty nick if you're not careful) but the concept is solid. Use the back hook-style edge to open up the skin, then the sharp side to cut through the softer meat. I've had it...

    Crazy Rain Yesterday

Apparently it's only a problem when dealing with 4 inches of rain in the span of an hour or so. Prior to that storm, it was never an issue. Expensive learning experience.

    iCast 2019

Lowrance and Garmin out with trolling motors in the same year?? Well I, for one, and happy for a bit more competition and options on the trolling motor front. Might make the old dogs a bit more accountable when it comes to quality and robustness.

    Crazy Rain Yesterday

I appreciate that! IF we were at the old house I'd totally take you up on that. I feel like this was a freak thing, mostly due to poor placement of the sump pump hose. I may find a way to trench that bastard out to the street, but it has to be close to 100 feet. We should just leave it on bypass...

    Crazy Rain Yesterday

Third time for us, but first time in this house. Same story though: Window well floods and gets into basement. Luckily this gives us the opportunity to install an egress window and do needed updates. Just horrible timing financially.

    Crazy Rain Yesterday

I'm not sure what we got last night, but it came down in sheets. Then it rained this morning starting around 6 and didn't let up until almost noon. Basement flooded. Again. Spent six hours tearing out carpet and cutting sheetrock. Guess mama gets that sewing room remodel sooner than expected!

    Big Head Carp

6 ducks/meal x 12 months = 72 ducks. If I brought home 12 limits of ducks a season, I'd be tickled. So I exaggerated. We probably eat duck once every two months at current capacity. You're right -- always room for improvement in the marksmanship category. - - - Updated - - - I used to feel...

    Big Head Carp

I'm really not sure I can sense sarcasm any more on NDA, but I'll play ball. Duck is my favorite meal. We actually save all our duck for special occasions and I limit consumption to once a month so we can make the meals last until the next hunting season. It's one of only a handful of meals...

    Fkn catepillars.....

When I was a grade schooler, I spent a Saturday one summer taking out potato beetles in the garden. I'd never seen them before, but they were lousy thick. Filled my Super Soaker and had the hose ready for reload. Would knock them off the leaves and then grind them into the dirt with my feet...

    Trolling with Spoons

Grandpa Ray lived on a tanin-stained lake in the Iron Range. Later on in life he got a nice AlumaCraft Deluxe console boat with a 60 horse gas motor (which is in my garage as we speak). But what I remember most about Grandpa Ray and that lake was his small aluminum boat. The seats would get so...

    Fifth Crow Wing Lake

My folks have a cabin on Third Crow Wing. I rode the struggle bus for a long time trying to find fish worth catching, so my wife hired a fishing guide. Know his secret? Drag half crawlers around on a bullet weight near the weedlines or by the inlet. Didn't catch eyes, but we did catch a bunch...

    Rust removal and trailer help

Oh yes. Inside of metal is plenty rusty. When he built it, he neglected to account for drainage. One of them actually expanded and cracked from ice over the winter. I'm going to drill out drain holes on the four main metal supports so that doesn't happen again. This truly is more of a utility...

    Rust removal and trailer help

10 cent dust mask, ear muffs that double for hunting season, and some goggles. I'm set :D - - - Updated - - - I assume I need to clean the service first to get the dust off? It can't be as simple as wiping down with alcohol I suppose...
