    Ice Fishin Poles & Reels

I have various reels, but the Pflueger President ones are my favorite. I believe the model size is 6920X...the smallest they make. Good drag. And at $50, a decent middle-of-the-road reel that works for ice fishing. As for rods, I'm partial to Thorne Bros. I know Dirty Mike and others are all...

    Christmas Blizzard

My two cocktails of choice are Brandy/Pepsi or Brandy/Cider, mixed roughly 50/50. Brandy water I have not tried. However, I'm all about elevating my status in life...

    Christmas Blizzard

We're officially changing our plans. Heading to the Shitties tonight, coming back Saturday evening. Short and sweet and then spending Christmas Day and Monday at home in Fargo. Even if this storm stays further west, I'm just not keen on driving through ice and snow or their...

Excellent observation. I will plan my 450-mile-round-trip travels accordingly.

    k drill

Shoot...just saw that's for the 8 inch and you have a 6 inch. Never mind. Although when they make a 6 inch, you definitely need one.

I love Cold Snap covers. Have one for my Strikemaster. Freaking amazing. Looks like they make them for K-Drills: http://www.coldsnapcover.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=product/product_id=160/category_id=59/mode=prod/prd160.htm

Fishing With a Minnow on the Bottom?

I think it's certainly worth experimenting, especially in ND where you can have four lines down per person. Set up two dead sticks, or at the very least a tip-up with a bait on the bottom. See if it works. I'm sure a live minnow raised off the bottom and/or a jigging spoon will still call them...

Fishing With a Minnow on the Bottom?

I think this may be a perfect year to try my new dead stick setup with the bait runner reel. Tail-hooked minnow on a 1/8-ounce jig, resting on the bottom with a tight line. Honestly can't see why that would fail. It sounds too perfect.

Fishing With a Minnow on the Bottom?

It's an eye opener. I've always visualized walleyes traveling deep and coming UP to the bait. I've never actually considered them traveling higher and going down to get something off the bottom. I mean...it makes perfect sense. And one year on Red when the bite was super tough, I wound up...

    Netflix and Amazon

I'll second Stranger Things and Westworld. May try the Crown based on Guywhoknowshistvshows. Problem is it takes me months to finish a series. I can't even remember the last time I was able to sit down and watch an episode of anything from start to finish.

Fishing With a Minnow on the Bottom?

Interesting video of pressured walters, both of the reaction to the suspended dead bait, as well as the broken/minnow jigs laying on the bottom. Got me thinking of doing an experiment mid winter when the bite gets tougher. Set up two dead sticks, one with a live minnow suspended a foot or...

I seriously need to get out pheasant hunting one more, and the thought of having to do so with snow shoes makes my quads spasm. Cattails and snow shoes don't mix.

Yup. Less if you've never bred the dog before, more if you have a dog with consistently awesome puppies.

    First time to Devils lake

Forget every single damn Jason Mitchel episode you've ever seen and totally lower your expectations. However, you can improve your luck by scouting. You'll want to pick up one of these, for sure:
