    I bet many folks say the same thing about the big chunk of public property I hunt. At least, the guys who can't sit still. Which are the majority. If you learn the funnels and are patient, good things come to you.

    Things are definitely later. First deer opener I haven't heard the Goldeye whistling overhead. Usually they're thick as fleas...then again, we also sometimes have snow on the ground and ice on the sloughs.

    Go immediately to Sportsmans Taxidermy in East Grand Forks. Do not Pass Go, but you will spend way, way more than $200. It will most undoubtedly be worth it. You WILL receive a museum quality specimen, which, I'm sure, is what you want.

    Bucks are typically larger-bodied, too, so they fill a freezer faster. Plus, 2 1/2- to 3 1/2-year-old buck antlers are the secret recipe to my famous venison stock. (SHHHH!)
