    Any Birders here?

I had a house in my farmyard but couldn't keep the sparrows and starlings out. So I moved it a mile out in the pasture. It took 2 years before the martins found it and then only 2 pair. But this last year all 6 compartments were occupied. Cool birds.

    Tree row rehabilitation?

If you are using the County Soil Conservation to plant evergreens make sure the trees are far enough apart, like 20' or more. Branches touching are the kiss of death because the trees need the air circulation around them to prevent disease.

    Tree row rehabilitation?

Possibly consider Eastern Red Cedar, tough tree, good cover for birds, 52 species eat the berries. Your plan sounds good.

    I 8 smelt

In the old days every wildlife club and bar would have a smelt fry night when the run was on in the spring. Cleaned as described above and deep fried they were great and that's from a fussy eater.

    Making ice

In Barnes everybody is moving around except the spear guys. 6" of clear ice, 18' of clear water, 2 guys, 5 hours,... 3 perch. Just nice to be out though after last winter. Edit: The culverts opened up this evening and the muskrats were topside. Warm and windy is going to eat some ice.

    DSLR Cameras

Kurt, if you have time before you buy sign up for a photography class at a local college or high school. Or maybe even online. It will save you headaches down the road.

    DSLR Cameras

Rule 1. The heavier the camera the less you will carry it afield. I have a Nikon with a monster telephoto lens. Great for shooting off a tripod or from a blind but otherwise it is a truck camera only.

    Your neighbors water

Guy #1 buys a house with a wet basement cheap because no one else wants it. He throws a pump in a sump hole, runs the discharge hose out the basement window, across the property line, and into his neighbor's basement. Now guy #1 has a dry basement and his house is worth more. The Code of the...

I had a science prof in college that put on a game feed. No labels. The coot went before the duck.

Eastern Kingbird. Depending on how many times you go through, just set it aside and put it back when you close the gate.

    Any Birders here?

Tree swallows showed up a couple days ago. Martins are usually a week behind.

    Any Birders here?

Not to worry about them using the house. I have the same floor plan in a Martin house that is in a cattail slough and it gets 4 pair every season.

Canada putting the screws to the states

The guides up there are shoving it through. They don't want the competition from freelance hunting. No different than in the states. If somebody can make money off wildlife they will try to limit access.

    Carbon Credits

NRCS might be able to give more info. Carbon credits was on the agenda at Ag Day in Jamestown last month. Some of the guys were talking about it at coffee the next day. Some of the payments were up to $30 per acre but again I don't know the details if that is annual or for 5 years total. DU used...
