My better half and I are doing a couple of 5 hr charters next week out of Algoma. 4-9Pm and the next morning at 4-9am. Better half hasn't ever caught a salmon so hoping we hit the jackpot!! At least for her!
You will love it! Not the part getting up at 3am though, Neat little town go to the grocery store and pick up Rons smoked string cheese, also Bear cats smoke house you can pick up smoke fish there, and the visitor's center is also pretty neat. A nice drive up to Sturgeon Bay is sweet. And if the bite is on its Addicting I must have 15,000$ worth of Salmon gear for my 17 foot Lund boat. Good Luck!My better half and I are doing a couple of 5 hr charters next week out of Algoma. 4-9Pm and the next morning at 4-9am. Better half hasn't ever caught a salmon so hoping we hit the jackpot!! The big Name guys that have been mentioned on here are a safe bet as they all communicate with each other for your best odds , but in fishing there are slow days also mornings are the best for your odds of catching them. If you have the time look up some of there Captains choices you can get 3 mornings during the week. That gives you time to Play golf some nice courses around Green Bay and Sturgeon BayWho are you going with?
We used Michigan Addiction. Capt. Stuart and his 20 yr old daughter Maddie as first mate. She said she has been doing it for 9 yrs...and it showed! I would put up money against anyone on her ability to set out dipsy's, planers, downriggers! Looked like she has filleted a fish or 5 million also! We ended up with a total of 11..mix of salmon and steelhead trout for the 2 ..five hour trips...4-9pm and the next morning 4am-9am. Storm blew in on our pm trip so had to head to shore and hour early.Who are you going with?
A million years ago, my buddies and me trailered a boat out to Washington Island on the ferry where we stayed for a week. If my poor memory serves me correctly, I think it was mid July both yrs we went up there. One yr was ok fishing, the other year we only caught like 3 salmon for the week so headquartered out of Sturgeon Bay the following couple of years. When a person factors in the long ride, the ferry ride there..and back home again...and the ungodly long amount of time to get there on those slow, single lane highways, it became more a chore than anything else.We fished out of Gills Rock, Washington Island and Baileys Harbor. In years past the 2 wks after the 4th of July was always the best. They start heading across the lake to spawn the end of Aug.
Good luck
