Bat Bait/Ice Out Pike

I can't speak for other lakes: Pike in Audubon will smash top water in shallow water shorty after ice out. The best situation IME is gray/dingy water and minimal wind. Good luck with that... I'd prefer some sort of muskrat lure. I've had success with a Jitterbug with a slow retrieve hoping to mimic the rodent. In fact the Boy's first fish on BC tackle was an 8lb which POPPED like a pistol shot--twice: Holy hell. It was a 50F; overcast afternoon with some slush still along the bank:

Is Audubon becoming a pike lake? I used to pull nice limits of eyes out of there in the early to mid 90s, consistently, but the last few times ive been up there I struggled to catch anything...

IMO Audubon is nothing but a pike/smallmouth lake from shore. Good numbers of eater walleye with TR plastic worms. My go to colors are Culprit "motor oil" and "tomato".

Also; clipping off at the collar (tomato) makes a good shallow saltwater jig in clear conditions. Trout of all environments/clear water love it...and redfish and walleye...

My problem with Audubon is the amount of structure on that lake. The whole damn thing looks like high end walleye spots.
