Im sort of with you there, based on reality of course. The reality is we elected him president which is top dog in the land. He has more rights to see those files than any other person in this country. To many federal people think they are more important than they realy are. I have personal experience with bat shit crazy egos.

While he was president, yes.

Once out of office he is no longer entitled to possess the documents. As far as the govt and laws are concerned...he no longer had the need to know. This is a requirement to possess the classified material. That is where the problem lies. The courts were pretty clear on that. He tried to have the courts rule he was entitled to keep them, but the courts ruled otherwise and took them away.
