Who on here has tried this? I've been thinking about buying one of those kits. Any tips or advice? Thanks.

Its expensive if its a one time deal for you and you buy all the stuff you need to brew, I have a buddy who is into it big time and did it at his place, I just had to buy the kit, he had everything else. It was fun and maybe I will get into brewing later in life when I have more time, beer was pretty tasty too!

I've been brewing for over 20 years and have accumulated $$ in upgrades over the years. I don't brew as much anymore thanks to kids' schedules and the wonderful assortment of beer now readily available. Borrowing equipment or supplying the kit is a great way to see if you like it.
Couple things -- sanitation is key and quality ingredients are going to make better beer.
Send me a PM if you have any specific questions.

And the Great American Beer Festival is worth the trip, just saying.

I have all the stuff to do it, used to do a lot of it and was fun but quit drinking beer a couple years ago and wife and I want to try our hand at hard ciders now and see if we can get that to work for us.

The initial investment can be a bit high for the equipment depending on how nice of stuff one gets, you can do it easily by being creative with some of it.

bought the one time kit and made some pretty good beer. I have a friend that really gets into it, so he helped me out. He had the same sentiment with sanitation. If you think it might be dirty, wash it again. Now I prefer just to go to his place and hit up the kegerator.

I have done a decent bit of it. Costs aren't crazy but enough to make you commit. I would suggest kegging instead of bottling, sanitizing and capping bottles is a total PITA. You can get super into recipes, etc. or just buy the kits. In all honesty, with all the good beer out there anymore, I really just buy what I like. I'd like to get some copycat recipes to try but really a sixer off the shelf suits me pretty well.

I have all the equipment that was given to me by someone who wanted to get rid of it. I have made about 10 batches or so. You can get some decent beer with the extract kits but i never thought any of it was great. To get the good stuff you need to be somebody who likes to experiment and really get into the details of brewing and get more complex than the extract kits. I just didn't really have a desire to go beyond the kits and haven't brewed for a few years now. Northern Brewers is a good place for everything you need.
