<blockquote data-quote="raider" data-source="post: 221539" data-attributes="member: 353"><p>so, here goes... if you're skinny, disregard... </p><p></p><p>i'm not posting this for any other reason than to try to help people who might be as desperate as i was... that's also why i'm posting it in general discussion for all to see...</p><p></p><p>i grew up being the fat kid... was overweight since grade school - its all i ever knew... early last year i had a customer in my office who had on baggy cloths - looked almost homeless, but otherwise well kept... he was feeling really good and was starting a new business and needed some equipment... his wife was a nutritionist and told him to try the keto diet... we discussed how well he was doing and how good he was feeling, and he left - haven't seen him since...</p><p></p><p>fast forward bout 3 months... my dr had doubled my blood pressure meds 6 months prior, and now tells me he wants me to start taking cholesterol medication... i'm 47 1/2, 5-08 and 288#, feel like shit and 30 years older than i was, on blood pressure meds, and now this... </p><p></p><p>i remembered the guy i had talked to bout this diet and started doing some research... i ended up finding dr berg and some shirtless guy who lives in equador, on you tube talking bout it... i watched vids and read everything i could find on it for a solid week - then took the plunge... i had a goal of being 225# when i turned 50 (nov of '18)... i started memorial day weekend last year and blew by my goal in 4 months... 3 months after i started my dr took me off the cholesterol pills and cut my blood pressure pills in half... i have seen him every 3 months since i started and we discussed the progress every visit... my goal is to be able to throw away the bp pills as well as maintain where i'm at now... i'm large framed and my dr says he doesn't want me to go under 190# even though i'd need to get to 160 to register as "normal weight" for my height... </p><p></p><p>for the past 6 weeks i've been staying between 190 and 195#... at some point i'd like to get to 188 so i could say i've lost 100#, but it just doesn't really matter to me at this point i guess... i've still got a little belly fat i'd like to lose at some point, but not the overhang i lived with for 4 decades... we'll see how it goes... </p><p></p><p></p><p>it is life changing to say the least... i feel better and am in better shape than i have ever been in... my back and knees feel better than they have in at least 20 years... i've gone from a 44 waist to a 32, and 3x shirts and jackets to medium or large... people i've known for years don't recognize me, or look concerned and ask me if i'm ok, thinking i'm dying... i have taken whole weeks off keto and gained 10# (mainly water weight it seems)... i jump back into it and will lose that weight again in a week... also, when i eat a bunch of carbs now i'm hungry and hung over thirsty with no energy 2 hours later - my body just doesn't like it, so now when i tell myself i'm going to eat whatever i want, i still find myself going mostly keto and mixing in a few extra carbs at a time... we just got back from my grand daughters graduation in oregon... we were gone for a week, and i was nervous to weigh when we got back... i'd gained 2#...</p><p></p><p>i can't say this will work for everyone, but it sure has for me... my wife saw my progress last year and started after labor day... she has lost bout 45# and has gone from wearing 10's and 12's for jeans to now wearing mostly 3's and 5's, with a couple 1's mixed in - she looks amazing and is smaller and feels better than she did in jr high... </p><p></p><p>again, i'm writing this for the people who might need the information - not trying to sell or convince anyone of anything... i just really wish i'd met that guy 30 years earlier, and maybe i can be someone else's "that guy"... </p><p></p><p>good luck - it can b done...</p></blockquote><p></p>
