Just finished this up for a customer. This was a challenge to get to where I felt it disappeared. The customer brought a hoodie for me to match which is damn difficult to do but I think its close. paint 1.jpgpaint 2.jpg

As you know certain areas are hard to work with stencils. I have learned certain areas with a lot of texture or shape changes often times end up looking bad so in those areas it works to just leave those areas solid color. Also stacking too many stencils don't work either as they can get buried so male and female are the way to go but female requires a lot of masking for overspray even with a fine tip airbrush.

Not where I'd like to be
Scopes are tough for stencils due to the conical shapes, and it can be tough to determine which parts to paint and which to leave. I recently did one to match my AR-10.
It's not perfect, but it works.

I'd like to start this post by thanking Slim aka: Bed Wetter for giving me the inspiration. He showed me his duracoat rattlecan job and knew I could do better ;).

You need a decent airbrush, a good degreaser, and a lot of patience.

Here's a few things I've done over the last few months.

My Savage 22-250:

My brothers FoxPro (the original color was a bit glossy for our liking):

Mags are really easy:

And my pride and joy, my AR 10 (243 win):

Doing the Kryptec-style camo was a major pain in the ass, but it turned out great.
Man "fox pro" has come a long way, still have my original from late 1990's still works great but half the size of yours i added several new calls for yotes, crows and snow geese. Great unit and customer service.

It's a 2-part epoxy paint with a hardener that you mix in. The car parts also got a layer of clearcoat. I usually don't do clearcoat on firearms because I don't want them to be shiny.
I use clear coat all the time. I put two or three coats on. Then take 0000 steel wool and I use Breakfree and rub them down to take the shine off. And you still have the protection of the clear coat.

Have you ever had a problem with the clear reacting with the epoxy?
