I avoid white plastics/lures when the river is full of cottonwood cotton…but like em at other times.

I always fished live bait and experimented with plastics at the same time. I don't recall once where live bait didn't out catch plastics by the end of the day but plastics did catch a few fish.

I've done very good with gulp alive crawlers and half crawlers for slow death. Once in Mobridge I had my 4 and quit using live bait and switched to gulp, and out fished the other 2 on the boat to finish the limit. A couple years ago my buddies kid forgot the crawlers on the counter at baitshop. We were forced to use gulp and limited easily.

When trolling BB's I'll usually have one rod with a live crawler and the other one with a gulp crawler. Some days the gulp does better than a live crawler, but it's usually pretty close to 50/50. Well worth having some in the boat.

Yes, always have some just in case you forget them or can't obtain them

We were up in Canade fishing years ago and tried all kinds of scents. WD-40 out fished all the other scents hands down.

I do remember catching some dandys with a yellow twister tail on one of those bucktail jigs that had dive wings. Like 1/2 oz and they would troll nice on Sakakawea . Can't find them any more but that day my kicker quit so I was kicking the big motor in and out of gear probably from 4 mph to 1 in and out . Caught some nice fish but never tried it again, and it most likely wouldn't work again
