If you’re into a camping/fishing trip, Faust dam (between Ashtabula and Valley) has a primitive campground but it does a vault toilet there so that helps. I grew up fishing that part of the river being only a couple miles away and it’s not too bad but the rocky bottom has claimed my share of snagged lures. KDM already mentioned Clausen Springs and I’ve gotten some nice bluegills out of that water. Another place that’s pretty good and even has a fishing dock is Moon Lake. It’s a little weedy around the west side where the dock is but they also do have a good trout population there too. Actually, there’s a lot of small lake spots between here and Jamestown too look into as well. Olson WPA, Eckelson Lake, Fox Lake, Sweetwater Lake, St. Mary’s Lake, Round Lake, Island Lake, and the Sanborn WPA are pretty much along I-94 and old Highway 10 with Algebula by Valley and the Jamestown Reservoir just north of Jamestown as well just to name a few. I would suggest looking into getting the On-X Fish app. I found lakes with fish in it I never even knew had anything in it before. Sanborn Lake is one I can think of since I had a couple of fields nearby but I never knew that it had perch and Northern in it and I grew up here! I think that app is well worth getting.
