Just noticed a deer or something must have decided to eat off the top of one of my tomato plants. It was a Super Fantastic if I remember correctly. Must be the best tomato plant I planted because none of the other varieties were touched.

Put up electric fence around my yard yesterday and the cows were back last night. Now my fencer is good for 25 miles of fence and I got like 1500 ft, got a little snap to it. First cow hit and let out a bellow, tail up full retreat back from where she cam from. Second cow same and the rest followed her out of the yard. Must be working. LB

Don't hurt to warm them up a little bit, they'll learn.

I don't recommend pee'ing on that one. One test that we had done before is take a long piece of green brome grass and touch it to a fence, this was only if we didn't have any other option to test if things were working. A guy could get a good little tickle out of it when things are working correctly.

Kind of explains why mom's rhubarb keeps coming up in an old garden spot in the yard that hasn't been tilled in 20-25 years.
if you dig out the crown, but leave those side roots, they will eventually regrow new crowns, it takes a while and not all of them will do it, but the big ones will usually.

I was working for a farmer and found rhubarb out in the middle of the field so I asked him how that got there. He told me there was a homestead shack there at one time. That stuff must be tough to survive all the chemicals , surprised it isn't a noxious weed.

This is "Little man". Had my wife on the watch for a motion activated toy or decoration and little man was in a free box at a garage sale. His eyes lit up and jaw moved and he would say random spooky quotes and play spooky music. Behind him is where deer started on a row of beets , once they got a taste for them it was almost impossible to keep them out but little man did the trick all of that year and part of the next until the batteries went dead and I didn't realize . Then the deer were right back in there so I strung a 3-D fence with 30 mile fencer. There is a lot of information about keeping deer out on some of the University sites , The plan I was following said it doesn't hurt to smear peanut butter on the wires so deer smell and lick it off and get a tongue zap. Our cat, Sparky earned a new name when he walked under the fence with his tail in the air. That was 2 or 3 years ago and he still won't go in the garden.

When I raised bottle calves and put them out to grass in the spring I would hang beer cans or pop cans on my electric fence. They would come a sniffing and ZAP also they could see the fence better and I never had a problem of them getting out. They were so afraid of a can that if you dropped one out in the pasture there would be a circle of long grass 2 ft around the can. LB

Those bottle calves have went up past the point of feasibility. I was going to get some last year but no way it would pencil out . Back in the good ol days you could find them for free once in a while.
