I’m new to ice fishing and am trying to catch perch or walleye around the Bismarck area.

You could try the bays off the river or Sweet Briar. Any other lake is at minimum an hour from Bismarck.

Lincoln, kinda...
Yeah, most anything worth fishing this time of year is about an hour to an hour and a half away from Bismarck. There are fish in Sweet Briar, but it's often a tough bite in the winter. Maybe New John's, but it too can be a tough bite through the ice (at least it has been for me).

I'd say check out NDGFs webpage: https://gfappspublic.nd.gov/wheretofish/Search.aspx

Harmon can be good for bluegills or crappie. Not usually big. Occasional pike there too.
New Johns and Sweetbriar at sundown for the elusive walleye. Fish Creek for trout can be fun.

Has anyone fished Danzig Dam? According to test nettings by F+G on their web site there are fairly good numbers of pike and walleye there.
