Goose Call

I have hunted waterfowl my whole life but my calling is below average at best. Most of time in a big group I will not break out a call.
My kid has really taken an interest in hunting ducks and geese. While I can quack enough where it seems I don't scare ducks away, my goose calling needs work. I have been practicing and doing what I can to improve, I am calling on a Zink PC-1. It might work for some, but I find it too high pitched and almost too easy to snap to the honk, which makes sense because it is a cheap call.

Question, is there a good call with good sound anyone can recommend. While I do not want to break the bank I would buy one if it had better sound quality than what I have, any recommendations? Is there a place to look I can listen to a sound file? Finally does anyone have any recommended videos to watch? Thanks.

I was never a very good caller and had a cheaper Zink goose and duck call and when compared to some of my buddies with better calls they felt mine sounded good enough to where they would let me call some with them, again not saying I was good. I messed with the way I put my lips on the call, how I blew into the call like moving the air from deeper in my chest (if that makes sense) and I also took the call apart and messed with the reed some to get the sound we were kind of looking for. I was able to get a deeper almost raspy sound compared to my buddies.
Not sure where my waterfowl calls and predator calls ended up when we moved but I haven't waterfowl hunted in 10-13yrs. Would love to get out again sometime.

There are so many out there. I’m not an acrylic or wood snob, poly is good with me. A Grounds Super Mag or a GK Canuck are both calls you can’t go wrong with in my opinion. I also think the cheap poly Buck Gardner can sound really good. If you do get a new higher end call, get it direct from the maker. Call them, tell them what your skill level is, and they will tune it appropriately. I’d not get too hung up on sound files, usually the guys running them could make a coke can sound good.

Practice makes perfect. I’m sure YouTube has lots of videos. I learned on the old Stahl Honker Talk vhs if that doesn’t date me. Clucks and murmurs kill geese.

I have a drc life sentence that i really like and learned on spent alot of time driving and blowing the call. It is pretty easy and has a nice deep honk for the geese up here. i also have a molt gear triumph venom which i can get faster on but also i feel not as easy to call with. My kid got a pacific calls 509 i really like the sound but it takes a bunch more air than the other two so i would say hard call to really get learn with. My friend has a grounds half breed which is like the og of short reed calls and it sounds good and blow really nice.

Also look up big sean calling tutorials on you tube it goes through step by step before that i was about ready to give up on the short reed calls

Do you happen to know anything about their Bino Harness? Looks pretty nice for the money, better than what I have anyways and the price of all these other "name" brands is getting stupid. I guess at $40 I could order one and find out, I've blown $40 in much worse ways

I've tried similar and just not a fan when out west turkey or muley hunting plus I like having my range finder up and handy, right now I just string my pouch onto my current cheap Vortex harness. I would probably like that type better in a blind or tree but I got my system when sitting in a blind that works for me.

My brother does a great amount of Goose and Duck hunting ( Washington State ) with Call maker Bill Saunders. After talking with Bill via phone call he recommended one for me as a rookie for Honkers ( what we hunt mostly),I haven't even come close to figuring it out yet. He has many varieties and is a great guy.
He won't let my brother even take his call out in the field ( as with many of his other clients ) he said do you want to hunt or watch geese fly by

I do not have any experience with their bino harness as i use vortexs. If you get in touch with them, you will find that they are great individuals to work with and will provide honest opinions on any of their products.

I have Vortex as well but use their cheaper harness that comes with them and for my range finder I just thread the case it csme with through the lower right buckle. Not a bad case for most uses
