Sak Jig and Minnow - New Town area

Kirk and I decided to take advantage of the nice weather and get out on the lake. We put in at the casino ramp. The water temp was 47.9 when we got on the water, around 10:00 am and was 50.8 (surface temp) when we quit in the afternoon.

We started by checking the Beacon area, but didn’t see much, then worked our way West along the shoreline. Around the sh**house area we started seeing fish in the 20 fow range. Their was a light breeze, so we drift jigged it. Gold google eye jig with a minnow was the best producer. I don’t think we had a single drift without a fish. We each caught a limit here, plus a dozen throwbacks, or so.

We then decided to scope out a few other spots, and ended up catching a handful more in the grain bins area. Again, in the 18-20 fow range, casting jig/minnow.

Please try a Countdown Rap with PowerBait Trout Paste smeared in the lip dimple and post results. Let it sink to the desired depth and fish like a jig. Countdowns have a great "flutter" when they're sinking.

Caveat: Rapala has greatly improved their hooks and cheapened their lips IME. Capt Ahab used to have the remedy but was thwarted by the company.

Also, get rid of the dumbass O ring. Someone should be kicked for various reasons.

For a "free action" use the below for various benefits. I can't express enough hatred for an O ring on the "beak". A direct knot is "acceptable" but is a pain to tie and leaders etc render the lure action retarded.

I prefer these. They're called quick or speed snaps made by various companies. I use 25lb. You may prefer 15. The 40 is for muskie etc.

As shown, the the knot goes on top. Best of luck!!
