I must admit I have YET to try any of Hornady's "new" stuff. I still have 1000s of Amax left in various flavors. Probably the best bullet ever made!! Yes, I said it.

I've since found negative vids of the ATip. I believe it was Mr. Nosler who asked: "At what point in the animal's death did the bullet fail?" I will admit I'm not as "Hammer Of Thor" as my OP. I'm anal about accuracy and want to be absolutely sure any miss is MY fault.

I pretty much pass on all "splashy" bullets for big game. I'm not the least bit concerned about lead contamination in meat, I want a projectile to get to the vitals independent of shot angle. I"ll give up BC for deeper/straighter penetration every time.

This won't be popular, but, when I've decided to pull the trigger on a set of antlers, I'm not all that concerned about saving meat. I don't shoot for "meaty" parts on purpose, especially as a 1st shot. However, if I've gotten a bullet into a critter and it goes straight away, I'm not waiting for a broadside.

Conversely, if I'm trying to fill a doe/cow tag, well then I'm awfully selective about choosing placement to preserve as much as possible.

If I'm shooting varmints, bring on the splash and don't spare the BC, I'll take all of both I can get so long as the increased weight and concurrent velocity loss still offers a discernible wind-drift advantage over a lighter/faster projectile. I don't really care about "drop".

Sounds good that sport is so so up north here for years few small groups in towns all for fun etc... I used to shoot a long time ago in Montana and neighboring states still have all my guns. There is group out in western ND, and way eastern Montana shoot can't remember name Dakota Rifle company guy heads it up I believe. When get closer to a known time I know some boys who could make it possibly.

I need to clarify….

For killing I pretty much use exclusively Barnes. Although Amax will knock the crap out of deer sized and down, I wouldn’t poke anything bigger with one.

Steel and paper I like Amax. A LOT!
