We have the same thing on the Ballot here in South Dakota. Makes me wonder who is pushing this. Its a no vote for me.
Apparently they got 170+ other things wrong since our constitution has been amended that many times already. What makes you think they got 50%+1 right if they had so many other issues?Today I heard a very convincing argument to vote no. The person pointed out that our forefathers didn’t trust our legislators and set this at 50+% rather than 60. Its been that way since 1889. Every time its been tried to be raised it’s been the Legislature trying to change it. Not the people, the Legislature. So, tell me one time where giving elected politicians more power and the people less has turned out best for the people? I couldn’t name one.
They factor in because “they” want the 60% threshold in place. We should know if they want it, it won’t be best for the citizensI just don’t see how Measure 1 is a citizen vs legislature issue. Either citizens change the constitution with 50.1% approval or citizens change it with 60%. How do legislators factor in?
I’m not sure we can assume that since the legislature voted to put this on the ballot that we can assume they want it. Couldn’t it be that they agree that the people should decide? And what about that sketchy Fairness Project opposing it, how do we factor that in?They factor in because “they” want the 60% threshold in place.
