found this guy walking back to the shore, all of 30 inches (head and tail curled down) tried to drill a hole next to it to grab, but he would find just enough energy to move away. kept trying to dive but couldn't like it was full of air. i have a video also but cant figure out how to upload it

SE ND.

Think about how much pickled fish is flipping around in your video. Goes to show catch and release doesn't work, it's all just a waste.
For those that like to over react I am joking a little, there are just times a fish needs to be kept when in legal limits, sometimes you just never know what is going to happen.

I know someone who had the exact same experience. They were able to drill and gaff it. No signs of hooking. Dying of old age?

He said on Twitter that while trying to gaff it he got its belly and then was able to swim away. I say just keep em.

There's a virus out there that produces what's called Whirling Disease. While I am far from an expert on the topic, I thought for sure I'd heard it only affected salmonids. That fish looks ill.
