Just curious as to what everyone else is using for panfish presentations and what has been working? I really like the idea of using plastics if i can produce more from them. any input?

I ordered a dumb amount of unpainted tungsten jigs at the beginning of the ice season. I just haven't had time to paint many. If I would ever have time to chase panfish, I could tell you how they work.

maki plastic (pick your color) on a tungsten jig is a favorite of mine for crappies and gills. I much prefer fishing with 1/16th oz spoons or even lipless cranks for crappies when they are aggressive.

I'm with wagatron on this. I am new to plastics this year but have been on the tungsten Kool aid for a couple years now. If I get a chance I will get you some pics of what has worked for me based on what I have bought so far and tried. Been using bright colors a lot and want to start using some more natural ones to mix it up

last year a tungsten jig tipped with a plastic and waxies worked great for bluegill up at metagoshi. seemed likellin I always needed a waxies to trigger an initial bite but it is missed it they would hit again with just the plastic on the jig

that being said I also had good luck with small jigging spoons of different brands. I switched out the treble it came with for a size 12 treble if I remember right

I'm almost in panfish crush mode. Late ice I plan to give the ND Gills a good whackin' on a few different lakes. Along with some MN gill and crappie stuff. I've been too far removed from panfish on the ice and starting soon I'm gonna give em a good rogerin'

I didn't have a chance to get pics last night but will try to get some in action this weekend.
I like using small spoons as well but have never thought about adding a single hook, might have to experiment. Also I have had times where I gave had to go from tungsten to lead and my guess is the slightly slower or subtle movement made a difference, mostly on finicky bites

If you are heading wagons east let me know and be glad to meet up for some panfish paddling

I keep going back to the same thing. A Marmooska jig (orange/chartreusse is crappie crack)

Paired with two or three of these:

AND the key to this system is using a noodle rod or spring bobber rod.

I have some sitting in bags that I have yet to get to. Hopefully next season. In fly carpin's thoughts, my caveman walleye brain cant figure out why someone would use such a small jig.

Back in the dark ages, before cameras and flashers were invented I used a simple little jig and waxies. If the bite was real light I would mark depth with a bobber stop and then make 4 or 5 wraps of line around my finger, slip the line off and pinch the loops hard. With 4# test line it would cause it to form ZZZZ in the line. Be ready to set hook at the slightest motion cause the gills would just suck that waxie in and out with out biting. like it was just tasting the bait. Caught a lot of gills this way.

Sounds primitive, almost like when me and my buddy's used to tie line to the pickup door and leave it open when it moved we knew we had a fish (pike fishing)

I haven't had any luck this year on tungsten/plastics. I did decent last year, but for some reason i seem to only be able to catch on dead sticks this year.
