State Fishing Tourneys

To get rid of cheating and hot cell phone tips you would have to do a pro/ co with random draw for teams. This is how the big tourneys are run with the co angler being encouraged to report anything against the rules.

The aim has a pretty cool thing going by taking pics of the fish and then releasing. I think that would be a good format.

maybe if they had to log their fish with GPS coordinates at moment it is caught / saved with a 3rd party official in all boats

I agree that AIM has the best format and "pro"/co would be best, but official cameras can get expensive. I guess the "pro" could be the person with the boat and the co-angler could be a person who likes to fish. I don't know about spending the day on the water with someone I don't even know, I have a hard enough time sharing the boat with my partners sometimes. :;:duel I think that if you really are worried about hot tips on the cell phones you would have to require CB radios and do a airport security pat down of everyone and their equipment checking for cell phones. I am not worried about that because even if you get a hot tip you still have to get them to bite. You all have seen the boat that is hauling them in while you cant get a bite.

You guys that think that every tournament is won by cheaters don't have a clue. Believe me, if you are a good enough fisherman you can win it without cheating. I know this for a fact.

I have heard that AIM is planning to bring their weekend walleye series to ND/SD, I heard they should be releasing their schedules before Dec 1st, so be watching for that.

AIM is a great format, especially for fisherman and the fishery! No decisions on whether to keep fish or not, and the fish are released to be caught again! Yes you do need a camera, but it doesn't need to be a big fancy DSLR or whatever, it just needs to accept a standard SD card and not have a fish eye lens. You can get those pretty cheap these days. The biggest downfall to this format is the weigh-in's where there are no live fish to display, only pictures and some people don't like that(but then usually complain that tournament anglers kill all the spawners)...

The Van Hook Classic has ran a similar format for years and people still attend, AIM's format is an Improvement and would help get results out quicker.

The biggest problem I would have with any series is that it adds more tournaments to an already busy list of tournaments during the summer months. I have some stuff that I have put together that would use existing tournaments(with 50+ teams) results to calculate points that could be used towards an angler of the year. Team of the year could be done as well if you fish with the same person for all tournaments. I was thinking of charging a certain registration fee for individuals to enter and then use their top 3 finishes to calculate final standings. I almost tried to roll it out this year but decided to wait a year... I might try and put together a spreadsheet using this years results from SAK so you could see who won the SAK angler of the year IF we had done a series. Fort Peck does something similar and has had good success.

I'm interested! I like the idea and wouldn't mind being on some sort of board to help with planning, but I want to fish them as well!

The hard part is planning around all the other tourneys. I think ND/SD could be due for its own thing. Craploads of planning, ideas etc are needed. Nothing that's going to happen overnight for sure, and possibly not even next year. Next year might just be all about getting advertising out there, spreading the word, and seeing what everybody thinks/wants to be done. Gotta say, angler/ co angler of the year is a thing that will happen. Live weigh ins, because not having em just takes the fun out I think. So many things to be done. Feedback, organization, blah blah blah. It's something that could be a good thing for our state. It's something that could be a trainwreck. But goddam, if you build it they will a come. The thing is, it should be designed by the people, ( the fisherman) not somebody that just wants to make some rules and stick to it. Ideas are needed from all. Just something to kick around and see if we can't put ND on the ole map.

I would be fine if there were no tournaments at all. Everything I love about fishing is the exact opposite of what a tournament is.

I agree, the cheats and liars come out in droves for these things, not all of you tourney guys, but seems to be plenty of em.
I am out to have some fun, catch some fish, and spend a day on the water with friends and family. I hate the jack assery of it all, but that might be because I have never won any tourneys. mrs johnr has however, and she is far from a cheat, but can be a liar when it comes to her shoe collection.
