Ok, I mean no disrespect with this question but....what is the mystique about this area? What does it all encompass? I'm aware of general area. I've heard stories for YEARS that it's a wild, tough country. Lots of game, tough people etc. Sasquatch may live there? I used to coach varsity girls bball. For a different taste we went up to Valley City for a summer team camp. I had a really good team those years. We pounded everyone until last game. Played girls from TM. The were rough looking! They had biceps and traps like a linebacker, maybe hadn't showered in a few days and had a sneer. We beat them but it was a football game and close. Kind of a dumb question, just always hear how this area is wild!

I hunted and fished up there lots, and there no different than anyone else. It's pretty country and Lake Metigoshe is a very nice lake. We always went to Boy Scout camp up there. Ate lots of frog legs up there. Not big frogs, just lots of them. Helped a few guys Moose hunt up there and also Turkey hunted.

Yep the Indian Res is right there to. We have friends that have a Cabin on the lake so visit once or twice a year.

Honestly, having grown up there for a lot of my life it is wild country and I mean both ways. If you want a true hunting experience and can handle the misdirection that brush and hills give you without knowing it then you will be fine. There is a lot, and I mean a lot, of public land to hunt up there, especially around the north between Dunseith and St. John.

The people up there only ask for respect, no different from most places but you see that area is about as close to Alaska as you could get in the US, different way of feeding your kids kind of thing. Tribal land intermixed with public and private. Not much for roads.

So the answer is it is very wild and intense and you can get lost in a heartbeat. You will encounter just about anything from wolves, black bears, moose, wolverine, mountain lion, elk, deer...as far as the people - don't disrespect them and you will be fine because no one up there talks to law enforcement when there is a problem, an unspoken, unwritten thing.

Try it out - it is the true wilderness!
