It was impossible for me to escape from white privilege. I grew up in a family that I never realized we were probably poor. Didn't realize it because I always had what I thought I needed, learned later in life that my parents worked extremely hard to provide for us and never realized how much they did with so little and providing the necessities.I was privileged to go to college with no government help (other than student loans that were paid back entirely with interest) and the jobs I held at the time. I was privileged to work my entire life and married to a wonderful woman who also worked during our marriage. I was privileged to have parents who expected me to do well and to grow up and move out on my own. I was privileged to realize that I should save some money for the future rather than spend every dime frivolously so when I reached that age where I wanted to retire I was able to do so without being a  burden on anyone else.I was privileged to have parents who taught me right from wrong. Who decided that if I got myself in trouble I would take responsibility and fix the problem. Now, what have i listed as a privilege that is exclusive to being born white? Not one thing. Those of you who have the fortune to know and have friends who come from minority area you also know that many of them have followed the same pattern to success. Success has nothing to do with skin color, it's all about attitude and work.During my education career I worked with a few black students, a lot of Native American students, and a sampling of other non-white students. Not a shred of evidence to predict student success or academic ability based on color of skin. No evidence of academic success based on financial standing of the family. More than likely the upbringing had more to do with success than any other factor. If that upbringing was based on doing your best and being responsible, success was likely.i prefer the term realist to racist.</blockquote>
