Ice fishing first mostly cause my kids love it. Shore next not much better than the thump on the end of your line when pitching jigs. I like boat fishing for putting fish in the freezer.
I chose boat, but really enjoy shore fishing. Dogs have more fun, more comfortable, and like fishing into the dark and having a fire. Lot more work however. There are times shore fishing in the spring is better than a boat.
Ice, don't own a boat and I'm not sure why I don't shore fish more as it is readily available. My new year resolution is to re-evaluate my priorities as apparently work has taken dwindled my hunting fishing.
In the words of a certain rapper...Ice, Ice baby! I love hole-hopping, portable fishing or chilling in the permanent. Plus my girls love to ice fish and I'm hoping our little guy follows in their footsteps when he's older. Wife hates the ice so that's one drawback. List of projects is always shorter in winter so I'm able to get out a lot. Boat would be second but since I sold mine last year it's not an option right now. Used to shore fish a ton in my teenage years but haven't done it in years. Nothing better than a little night fishing.
Boat fishing is #1 in my book but ice is a close 2nd shore fishing is everyday I live on the water but I only catch catfish and Pike which are fun but thier not walleye
