First time ice fishing devils lake this weekend and looking for a couple pointers. We are staying at the casino and hoping to ride four wheelers from there. Plan is to chase pike or perch during the day and walleye in evenings. Is there decent fishing somewhere near the casino? Not looking for a hotspot but figure I'd do a little research before getting there and turning to hole piracy.
Thanks!

I plan to give it a whirl there too but not till next week sometime, Please keep us posted how it goes lostinnd. I have more questions though. Does anyone know if there are ice roads out from the casino and about how thick the ice is ? I don't want to run and gun but just drill a couple holes and fish from the pickup, Hopefully close to shore . I'll just be passing through and don't want to drag everything along if I can't drive out on the ice.

I used to fish a lot just across the road on mission bay when the trees were still sticking out of the lake on the east side. There's an old railroad bed over there. Had pretty good luck.

Ice should be pretty good around there, just stay away from the bridge. Mission bay has a few good areas of structure that I'm sure you can find some walleyes as well as pike. Just check out a navionics map, there's an old RR that is on the east side of the bay and a pretty good point with an old pit on the west side of the bay, just across the hwy from the casino. If you head south out of the marina toward fort totten, cactus point usually holds fish from time to time as well.

Good fishing can be had around there. Pull up Google Earth on a PC. Look at historical imagery from 1990 and 1997. Store some GPS coordinates in your GPS and go nuts. Look for the pits in Mission referencedo above, the concrete plant south of the island and the points on the old shoreline. Good luck.

Oh it seems only last year when I was lambasted for sharing that little bit of info about Google Earth I feel like I am a pioneer in the exploration of devils lake of yesteryear. Kind of like Magellan

I am a pioneer --- 90s --- no boat ramps - no bridges-- if you wanted in mission you crossed a very shallow road -and prayed that the wind didn't blow as you were stuck in that bay if it did. Where is the ice access to get into mission currently? Tribal permit needed to drive on so to speak from tribal land?
nowdays --- you have 15million minnetuckins, scons working that area

My grandpa said there are three different types of men
somebody who tells stories, somebody who tells lies, and somebody who is full of crap
The type of three that you fit is all considered by who you are talking to.

Call me an idiot, but I just found out about this! I spent way to much time on it last night. I got a few spots picked out already. Thanks espringers!

I going to be even more gracious then just using Google Earth but also using fishidy.com as well. If you want to know how you can combine both to utilize their features pm me. Like I said before early I did get lambasted for bring Google Earth animation feature up on the other site. I even had a Geo cache thread where people could share their way pts but of course I realized that I wasn't really make any friends but pissing members off "pot stirring". So now I only share my secrets via PM that way I can still share with those who would like to know. That way I don't piss off everybody now.

Thanks everyone for the help! We had a fun weekend fishing out of the "dry" casino, luckily we were fishing what we called "international waters" so the busch light was taken care of off of the reservation.

We didn't get much by the casino, fished a few hours in Mission bay with nothing to show for it. One thing we noticed is how hard it gets to access the lake with all of the rip rap on the dikes and roads, even with wheelers we didn't want to mess with going over the big rocks. Due to the access we decided to fish on the NW point coming out of the boat ramp from the casino. Caught a few nice perch in 18' using wax worms and then once dusk set in we went to the shack for walleyes in 14'. Turns out the shack was on top of a tree so we just snagged up trying to jig, left some tip ups out but nothing got bit. Tried again sunday morning in the deeper holes for perch but nothing so we ended up stopping at Irvine for a few hours. Had a nice walleye up to the hole and caught one pike about 5lb but it was slowww. Saw a couple walleye caught around us but that is it.

We missed out on the honeys at outlaws ;:;popcorn but had a good time at proz.
