How to Catch Fall Walleyes on Deep Rock Structure. We break down why deep offshore rock structure is such an important location for finding and catching fall walleyes.

Not all offshore rock structure is created equal. We typically target deeper offshore reefs or humps that comes out of the basin on natural lakes and deep structure adjacent to the old river channel on reservoirs. Areas with a mixture of small rocks, larger boulders, and varying bottom composition can be especially productive. We explain what makes these locations attractive to walleyes and how to identify the best areas to fish.

We also share some important vertical jigging tips for fishing deep, rocky structure, including:

• Getting vertical with a jig around deep rocks and boulders

• Why adding a small swivel above your jig can help reduce line twist

• How the Northland Deep-V Jig fishes well in rock with a pill shape head design

• The advantages of a hook that holds up to rock contact and can be resharpened compared to some finer-point premium hooks

Whether you’re fishing natural lakes or reservoirs, these fall walleye fishing strategies can help you become more efficient when targeting deep offshore structure.
