I'm sitting here, staring at a pair of computer screens. Papers all over my desk. Projects in various stages of completion. And all I can think about is how freaking pointless this all is.

Get up at 5 a.m., shower, make breakfast, get the kids ready, kiss the wife, go to work, sit on my ass for 9 hours, come home, make supper, clean up, spend an hour with the kids, get ready for bed, collapse on the sofa, go to bed. Rinse. Repeat. Then the weekend comes and we pack so much into two days they are gone in the blink of an eye.

I'd kill for a four-day work week. Or more flexible hours. Or the ability to just say tittysprinkles it and go fishing for the rest of the day. Especially on days like today when there's not even a fart of a breeze and it's just tickling 80 degrees.

Do jobs like that even exist?

I shouldn't complain. I know folks are way worse off. I'm honestly thankful to have well-paying job in a field of study I actually got a degree in. But man...this Weekend Warrior crap is for the birds.

You could become a teacher! Summers off, constant holidays the rest of the year etc. I couldn't be one because i have no patience, but its a pretty good career for someone who wants free time to fish all summer.

I hear ya cluckin'. I'm grateful to have a 8 to 5 job, Monday thru Friday. But still get to feeling sorry about my first world problems, when it's nice out, and I'm in...

I'd considered that. One of my best friends is a teacher in West Fargo. The stories he tells of his students makes me fear for humanity's future.

It's particularly bad this year when the weekdays have been gorgeous and the weekends have been close to hurricane force winds!

I wish it was that easy. The owners of our company are old school to the extreme. 8-5 M-F, no exceptions. People come in early, work late, and often work weekends. Why? I dunno. People enjoy being miserable.

I'm the black sheep. I prefer getting my crap done during the assigned hours and actually spending time off with people I give a crap about. Then again, nobody I work with hunts or fishes. It's a sad, sad group of individuals.

I am the same. I absolutely hate working more than 40 hrs. I will when I need to, but my time off is for me, my family and fun time on the weekends, hunting and fishing. I even try to get the household chores done after work during the week so I don't have an excuse to not go outdoors on the weekend.

My company is the same, minimum of M-F 8-5. And management won't stop you if you want to work more or on the weekends.

What I wouldn't give for summer hours, 4-10's or just let me get my 80 hours every two weeks, however I want to do it. I would so work 3 12's and a 4 if I could.

My company let us start working 7-4 this year if we wanted. Basically anytime between 7-6 as long as we get our 8 hours. 4 -10s would be better but even getting off at 4 makes things much better. It's amazing how flexibility boosts morale!

My wife always says control what you can and make the most out of what you have. Its tough to do when the wind blows every weekend. She is right though and her attitude shows it. Last year at this time i went to work out -- died and some guy from willy town helped me back to life -- out cold for 4 or 5 days straight --they had me iced and michael j'd up -- i woke up on the 5th day shivering with the best hangover of my life --- looked outside and wasnt happy being enough being alive --- i wanted outside and to be in a boat!#$%^&>

I had the go ahead to take a friday off for the 4th weekend and forgot that it was the 4th weekend. Oh well. No PTO so I work as much as I can before I burn out and have to take the boat out.

I have some work flexibility, but having young kids eats up a lot of that flexibility. I would have left @ 3 today to head out with dad and crew, but wife wouldn't be around to pick up kids from day care. I am patiently waiting to hit a local hole after supper.

Well just to let you know the last two days have been really pleasant on the lake just as you've imagined from your desk, and the fishing well its about as good as it gets. As a matter of fact I think I'm going to head out again in the morning! :)

My better half had this one in the boat in the first 5 minutes this morning, that was pretty cool and the pressure was off on our fishing date! ha ha

Been good for us last two days as well. Nothing like hammering fish with hardly anyone on the lake.

10-4 Duck. Been running so hard my head spins, then get home with all my girls just to spin more. Haven't even bought a fishing license cause I'm either working too much, catching up at home on off time, or working on my restoration prject (if I have a few hours).
I know I just need to say screw it and take some time but construction season is short and everything happens fast, at least with such little rain I am working fewer 7 day weeks.

I took the last 2 days off and spent it out in the boat shooting carp. Yesterday was nice but the lake was a blue slime ball. Went to a different lake today. Visablity was only about a foot and the fish were small. But it made for some tough shooting but lots of it so it was fun. If the little lake by my place is already filled with blue green shit I can only imagine what the ashtray is going to look like by the bullhead tourney.

not gonna lie, 4 on 4 off beats the hell outta working a 5 day work week. but there are definitely better schedules.... On the other hand, It seems like no matter how much time you do have off, there's always another project or kids event, or family get together or whatever to fill up the extra time off.
