We have been invited to go over to Cass Lake for this coming weekend. I have never fished this place, so I am just wondering if anybody here has some insight on this rabbit choker lake? Thank you.

This time of year you can do really well on walleyes trolling #7 shallow running shad raps at night (as in, don't leave the cabin until 9pm) on the Star Island sand flats. 7-8 feet or so, NW of the beach where everyone gathers to booze. Also the midlake structure around Cedar Island is OK morning to midday this time of year. Drift a long lindy with an egg sinker and a leech.

I fished a few tournies on cass, the lake is loaded with perch and they peck the hell out of live bait (crawlers/leeches) as stated above cranks can produce but we did the best using longer snells and redtail chubs.Beware of the slots.Lots of structure on the lake as well.

given the waters you are accustomed to fishing, your best bet would be to enjoy the boating and water sports while visiting cass. You will likely be disappointed if you spend time fishing. I will be visiting a relatives lake home down by Alexandria this weekend. Plan on letting the kids swim and get pulled around on the tube all weekend. Maybe will try for some sunnies off the dock. Good luck if you do go.

This was at the top of my list to try. I appreciate the reinforcement.

IMO, this pretty much sums up inland MN walleye fishing unless you really enjoy fishing in the dark. I do enjoy bass fishing in the land of 10,000 lakes, though.

It's flippin' awesome - naturally speaking.

I had a great time there a few years back catching 10-11 inch perch pitching/dragging little jigs in 10-12 FOW beside big weed walls. The mysterious "hole" off Strawberry Point is something you need to check out from a boat. We caught the perch on the southeast corner of Cedar Island.

there is also a certain beach where party animals go to bake in the sun and get blitzed - lots and lots of boats and pretty people

Don't you catch enough walleye? Go get some musky gear and hit it, Ahab, you're going to be on one of the top lakes in the state!

You are way over offering, and should have come in with a lot lower fee base. Like only mushky jokes on Fridays or some such

I see the annual Bemidji Dragon Boat festival is this weekend as well. I think that is just 15 minutes west of Cass Lake. We took in the festival one year when we were in the area. Kind of neat to watch along the shores of Lake Bemidji. Beer tent, kids games, food vendors. Something to pass the time away as an option for ya anyway. http://www.bemidjidragonboat.com/

When do you want to pick up your gear? ;)

OK, here's the deal. I actually like you as a musky fisherman. My deal now is if you are serious and if my potential fisherman actually want to go. And i am by myself, I will throw or troll giant baits. If i am not, I will have to appeal to the masses. Awe crap.

My main question is: Is musky fishing lonely? If not, where do we catch giant pigs and have a camera man?
