I've been throwing around the idea of getting an enclosed trailer and turning it into a hunting trailer. If I remember right I think yotkilr (sp) did one up a year or so ago? Anyways have any of you guys done this? I know I should just get a damn wheelhouse and use that but I want probably an 8x16 tandem axel. Thinking on putting a freezer, smaller cook top, bunks and wheeler in it.

While talking to guys that have done a fair bit of back country hunting, the one thing that caught my ear almost every time is that the wheels on most trailers are either too small or the clearance on the axle's sucks. If you get a big trailer, keep in mind the ass end might hang up on whatever the truck can clear. So Big Tires and High Axles would be a plus. Just a thought. Good Luck!!!

Any interest in going fish house / hunting unit like an ice castle. Going to be a little more cash but might be set up for various applications. We love ours for pheasant hunting and deer hunting with the occasional fishing trip.

I could see if you want to haul 2 wheelers and gear this isn't an option but don't know your scenario so just throwing ideas.

I made a trailer that works for me and my needs, I started with a trailer I got from an old ranch wife.

It started life as a 40's pick-up bed that had a home made axle on it. I made a new tongue, put a 2 5/16 bulldog coupler on it and redid the forward part of the frame. I added 4 places outside the trailer body to tie down gas/water cans and 20# propane tanks and a 10 gal Igloo water cooler. The tongue has a large water proof tool box for tie downs, flashlight, flares, the Willys has a Hi-Lift jack the trailer has a 8 ton bottle jack in the tool box.

It's got a 3500# axle with brakes and 5 on 5 1/2 lug pattern so it shares the same pattern as my Willys, so I have 2 spares when I'm out hunting, camping or just 4 wheeling. It has a 2500# winch and dedicated battery to run it and the work lights so I can load stuff (dead elk, deer) about 30 tie downs, 16" of clearance at the low point so if the Willys fits the trailer will too. I also use it to haul water with a 300 gal tank. The bed is 52" X 102" so you can get a lot of stuff in it.

I have 2 LED stop/turn/tail and 4 LED marker lights so some dumb ass doesn't hit me because he didn't see me. I added 2 lights on the front of the bed that swivel to help load and unload, a light under the winch mount so I can see in the tool box, back up lights in the rear with 2 under the bed at 45* so they shine out so you can see where you're backing up into and one under the tongue so you can hook and unhook easier in the dark (there is a switch on the trailer so you can use all the lights while it's unhooked.

Stuff that's always in the trailer, flares, a dedicated 4 way lug wrench ( welded a bead on the one that fits the trailer, it's also bright pink for day time), 2 Maglights w/ fresh batteries, 8 ton jack and handle, 12-20 tie ratchet straps, spare pin for hitch, 5 lug nuts (fits the Willys and trailer).

I get used to the question "why do you have all those lights"? I spend a lot of time outside and half of that is in the dark. I hate not being able to see what I'm backing up into or where that tree went. Being a one legged guy I like being able to turn all the trailer lights on and walk around without tripping over something. SO that's why I have a lot of lights, try it you're never go back to the dark side. ;)

I'm getting close to painting it to match my Willys. I think in addition to being useful as hell it looks good rolling down the road.

I have thought hard about the fishouse route. but I would like to have a tandem axel in a shorter trailer. I am now looking at a 7x14 tandem. gotta do some measuring to see if everything will fit comfortably. all of the fishouses I see have only a single axel in that length. also plan on flipping the axels to gain more ground clearance for them situations.

I have a tandem 7x14 and make it down that way pretty often if you want to take a look at mine for measurement purposes. Mine is insulated with a vented heater.

I have a 7x17. Had them make it a foot higher so my Ranger with cab goes in. Got a carpet remnant cheep. The Kanga back carpet with 3/8 foam on the back. That insulfates the floor. Then a 17k BTU furnace, sink, and kitchen cabinet. 2000 w Honda generator and a small freezer. When we stop the freezer goes outside. I like to listen to the cototes at night, so a 400 w converter on a deep cycle runs my buddies sleep apnea machine.

What do you guys do for lights on the inside. I just picked up a 7 x 16 and need to install some bright lights that will run off a deep cycle. I would like to have it bright through out front to back, with LED strips or something similar.

The LED strips work great, we ran 2 strips the length, its a 14' straight wall with 5' V and sled door, and high floor, over top of wheels. My 900 ranger will fit right in, then 2 Rokons. Have the E-TRACK on floors and walls for tie downs, then when unload in elk camp, we just snap in the bunks, ( laid on floor for transport). Have a propane heated mounted in the V neck, 1 bunk on right side, and 2 above each other in back, and lots of room for kitchen on left side, and room for drying clothes.

Give this Milwaukee M 18 LED Floodlight a look. Great portable outfit. I have used mine lots. I think I can get 6-8 hours on a battery. Plug it in the charger and ready to reuse.
Need extra light in shed? check
need extra light in trailer? check
fish house? check
garage? check
need a good light for locating downed game in the dark? check

Where would I get these lights, and do you have them hooked up to a deep cycle, or do they have some type of other power source.

I am looking for the entire trailer to light up like an operating room, but be able to run off of a deep cycle 12v system.

Orders 2 sets DM, I will have a 30 rack of ice cold Busch Lights waiting for you to help install when they show up..

Looks like about a 10 minute job, followed by a night of beer drinking.
Haul it to bismarck and I'll show you why they call me sparky.
