Lake Oahe pike

Anyone spend much ice time actually targeting the girls down there. Don't need spots just wonder on what sort of
Tendencies you see this time of year well fishing for them. My initial thought would be to fish somewhere in the bays probably just up and off the creek channels looking for travtravel corridors on the adjacent Flats but I almost never ice fish them so my knowledge on where they may be is quite limited. Figure get two or three guys with a big tipup spread covering multiple depths and the hand rods near the creak checking for eyes or crappie.

So anyone go a goto trick on this bigbuggers?

Target walleye and you will catch more northern than you want. At least that's what works for me unfortunately.

I would search out a large flat near a channel bend and work 5 to 15ft.

Yeah that was kinda what I was thinking. Was thinking about starting in the cercled areas and if we get nothing move on. We know the eyes and crappies like to run the creek channel as evening approaches so figured it would be worth a try when the weather settles down.

IMHO, your spot is going to be within the diamond of 3,16,15 and 6. The 7/12 to the NE looks promising and the 4 up at the NW may be a honey hole.

think marbleyes is on track here. Pike are where the feed is, usually with the Eyes. Catchem 30ft this time of year

Lakemaster has Oahe contours on them, which is why i went humminbird. I do think some of the newer lowrance might have a built in chart with the contours as well. I think i remember seeing them while playing with a gen 2 touch. They weren't as good as lakemaster though.

I have been on the river 4 times this winter and haven't tangled with a pike yet, i'm not mad about it either.

I'd look for green weeds and run a gauntlet of tip ups around the edges. Where I have done the most damage on pike is 2-4 feet below the ice. I had an elderly client that wanted to pickle pike a while back. I ripped a rattle bait in about 3 feet of water around nice green weeds. I had 5 30"ers on the ice in about an hour or so after tossing back a few smaller ones. I'm not a pike fan, but it was a pretty good time.

It's just a screen shot off my humminbird. The depths shown here are way off since I didn't adjust it for current level so this is something like three feet deeper then 2011.

Yep that she is. Figured I had my camera hit damn near every time I dropped it down last year may as well go in there and actually try for them..... Atleast with the tipups.

Here is the east and west sides of the bay. The elevation should be somewhat close but is probably off by a couple feet.
