This issue is a monopoly when it comes to cell coverage, AT&T and Verizon own most of the towers in ND. The operator from tmobile told me that it will be at least 2 years before Tmobile puts up enough towers to give their customers adequate cell coverage instead of using others. Same thing as the other pre paid cell service. At least when we had cell one, altell, and those other local cell phone provider we had competition now we have a monopoly.

So AT&T was having problems with their data towers by churches ferry which was causing slow data, I called customer service several times wondering what was the deal at the time they had no clue what the problem was until more customers tried using their data plans that's how they found out it was a tower issue. So a tech support told me it was my grandfathered plan that was know longer compatible with the updated cell service.

Customer support said that if I go into the local store and get a updated Sim card it should fix my problem. I did as i was suggested it worked for about 20 minutes until the sim card detected I was using a different phone than what my plan was supported. I called back to be told that since I updated my Sim card I was no longer able to use my old plan.

I was forced to take a more expensive plan with data allowed, the shifty part is my data plan was faster, was able to talk and surf the Web at the sametime, and was unlimited to boot. So I filed a complaint tellin them they should of never told me to get a different Sim card because it didn't fix the issue because it wasnt my grandfathered plan but rather data towers.

So yesterday I got a message saying that my claim was denied and a I wanted to file an appeal. That's why I am pissed at AT&T for their imcompentents.

I was straight talk for 2 or 3 years. Loved it except for the phones they sell specifically for the plans at Walmart are partitioned so very little of the memory is availed for apps. So, they were constantly "full" and needed purging. When it was time for new phones, we went back to Verizon so we could pay monthly instead of forking over $600+ for each phone (3 of them) up front. They are all about due for insurance claims for cracked screens, bad charging ports, etc... so, I am holding off to submit the claims for a couple of months which will be close to the end of our contract. Then I am porting those phones over to straight talk again and never gonna look back. Verizon is one big ass fu%$ing after another. I hate those cocktail suckers like nothing else. I will gladly pay out of pocket for new phones next time.

Get a good refurbished phone from Amazon and go Straight Talk. You won't ever have the newest phone, but you'll have an almost as good as new for $150-200 and save money on your contract.

What sucks is my grandfathered unlimited no throttling data plan was fantastic I averaged over a 100 gb a month because I don't have home Internet or cable. It was all I needed for 93 dollars a month.

We switched to tracfone , I think it's owned by the same company as straight talk . Saved a lot of money, Was paying over 100 for 2 phones at Verizon and dropped down to under 20 a month with 2 new phones (that includes what we paid for phones, Averaged out for one year). My wife uses hers quite a bit so it's her phone racking up minutes , I looked at my contract and see I still have over 1000 minutes left so I will make a full year without buying minutes. Now I see they have free usage if you have a wi-fi connection , Might get wife a new phone that has this feature because most of the time she uses it where there is wi-fi.

Verizon on Sunday said that it will launch an unlimited LTE data plan, titled Verizon Unlimited, on February 13. The plan will start at $80 per month for an individual line, or $45 per line for a group of four on smartphones or tablets. Both new and existing subscribers will be able to sign up.

The move marks the first time in more than five years that Verizon, the nation’s largest carrier in terms of total subscribers, will have an unlimited offering. The carrier had recently started forcing heavy users who’ve stayed on those old plans to move to new offerings.

I don't think this is a coincidence that verizon is doing this especially since most unlimited grandfathered plans are no longer usable, a lot of pissed off people jumping ship or moving to another. 80 dollars for unlimited up to 24gb then throttled to 3g

I have straight talk now and I doubt I'll ever go back to Verizon. The only spots I don't have good service is spots I didn't have good service with Verizon. I only have the 5gb plan for 45$ I rarely use it all but I do have internet at home.

I would be ok with getting home internet, but NDTC wont provide me with internet without a land line which I don't need and midcontinent can go Fuck themselves. It is just a shame that I have had the same plan for a decade and with AT&T since 2011 and I don't mean shit to them.

Your a pea in a pod to them. They have "millions" of customers whom are all just the same. It is a shame...

Its a major monkey-see, monkey-do industry with att and verizon=(the big 2). Verizon had to come out with something to match/beat att's unlimited plan i.e (if you have att as well as directv--you're guaranteed 22 gb's before you're throttled to 2g for $100). That's for a phone you already OWN/payed off/0 contract on.
Now i'm sure you'll eventually see att getting rid of the clause where you have to have/get directv to be eligible for this plan and I've personally been waiting since the news of att purchasing directv; for verizon to make a major push at aquiring dish network. They are obviously struggling with the attempt of the yahoo acquistion after the X2 yahoo hacking issues at the most inopportune time though. Annnnd now att has been trying to complete the acquistion of time warner for a few months which points the needle to att becoming a total in-home solution such as midcontinent with home internet, dish, wireless, and home security.

Change is good so they say, but my god do i miss the days of simplicity most days..

Word around the tree stump is best buy may stop selling att and take on tmobile at least in a particular south east part of the state.

Lunker, i wish i would have known about your issue and im guessing you were using a 3g device/blackberry curve maybe?? You previously had alltel and when your plan was grandfathered it would only work on 3g capable devices, but att has recently ended 2g service; which your phone was previously working/piggy-backing off that for data and 3g will be gone by 2020 as well. Its just the way the old alltel unlimited data plan worked on certain bands/frequencies of att and now both are eventually going away to get ready for 5g. You could research CDMA (verizon/sprint/boost mobile) vs GSM (att/cricket/tmobile/h20) bands and frequencies til you're blue in the face, but because of your phones technology as well as compatability with the plan you had, the timeclock was unfortunately running out with the plan youve had for ages and one of which most people employed by att had not a clue how to decipher the details to explain it correctly to you..

That got a little long-winded and i apoligize, but i know how frustrating how all this stuff can get for the average consumer at times!

E you don't think I will be able to use that much data since my original plan was only 3g+

Yeah I wish we had t mobile up here, I was able to purchase a micro sim card about 5 years ago under the impression that I was going to use my sim card in a donor phone that only took the micro instead of the mini at first they turn off my data since I got a micro, then I called them to turn my data back on. Then I bought a z10 that only took the micro and went into the engineering screen to access the apn to turn on just the GSM setting and it worked . I used that phone for awhile then on got a z30 which since I was able to activate the card previously to only use the 3g+ frequency. I was only able to tether with the torch 9830 trough the blackberry app which I avg 300 kbs. Which was plenty fast for me, I don't need cable or home Internet because I only watch my shows I want to watch through my free websites. I hope Verizon throttles me to 3g not 2g like AT&T does.

The downside is Samsung is not going to make notes any longer so I had to get the s7 which is smaller than my z30
