Last one I went to a couple years ago was nothing but a bunch of whiners pissing and moaning about everything. We got too many deer! We don't have enough deer! Why can't we use our gratis unit wide? Why can't I get a gratis for my 40 acres? Why can't I drive thru my pasture to deer hunt? Why are people allowed to drive thru my land on a section line? Why can't I keep 50 perch if I only fish once a year? Why do you guys sell tags when there are no deer? Why why why but but but.....

I ain't sitting thru another 3 hr BS session like that again. I'll contact them direct when I want to make my opinion known about something.

They would be A HELLOVALOT more fun with an open bar. As they are, I'd rather spend two hours at a daycare with 50 screaming kids.

Heres my only change I would like to see.

I'm sick and tired of being mandated to carry a head out of the field for proof of sex identification. All the other western states allow you to keep proof of sex attached, or a similar procedure. In ND you HAVE to carry the head out, even if it requires another trip 4 miles into the badlands to grab that doe's head. If you bring physical ID out of the field, leave the tagged head, and can return to the spot of a kill i dont seen an issue.

They need to adopt this change and be more flexible like other western states.

Who really shoots a doe 4 miles in needing to return to pack out a head? Cutting a doe head off at the base of the skull and bringing it out isn't a big deal I don't think. I'd almost rather take a head out than have to figure out where I'm going to leave sex organs attached when I want to de-bone a carcass and haul it out.

While that sounds like a lot more fun, I was at an advisory board meeting at Smokey's Bar in West Fargo 20 years ago our so and there were plenty of liquored up people. Near the end of the meeting it was getting pretty raucous and there were nearly several fights. Probably the reason they are no longer held in areas where liquor is served.

I do. Maybe not 4. But I've done 3. I was trying to prove a point. You may never find yourself in that situation because of your hunting style. Alot of guys drive the pickup and throw it in the back and thats fine. But some people hunt exclusively on foot, away from roads, and enjoy quartering an animal and hauling it out. In alot of instances, those same hunters aren't concerned with the head of a doe, or a small buck for that matter. And in those instances, an extra 10lbs can be a big deal.

All i'm saying is, why is mandatory? Other states seem to not have an issue, so why does ND? If i follow proper tagging procedure and have no issue leaving a sex organ attached, I see no issues. But the state does because they are concerned about enforcement. All i'm saying is other states have more flexible regulations for different hunting scenarios than ND does. Then again, ND hasn't been the poster child for embracing excellent models of efficiency in other states either.

Just kicking around ideas. I know it would make sportsman's life easier sometimes. And I dont think it would make GNF job that much harder.

ndlongshot you have my vote. If anyone has ever carried a cow elk head out of the Badlands, I'm sure they would too. And to appease those who hunt close to the truck, I don't see why it couldn't be evidence of sex OR the head. Just because evidence of sex is legal doesn't mean you can't gut that doe and throw her in the back of the truck

Couldn't agree more. While I mostly support what the G&F does, this is an incredibly dumb rule. Like you said, every other western state says you have to leave natural evidence of sex attached.
