if I wanted a great upland hunt maybe trip of a lifetime consider Kansas, bird city area western part, they farm small grain in the area phesants, shatpies, quail hun's great upland hunting experience but its been a few years since we hunted the area,we migrated from the dakotas and nebraska south to kansas when CRP went to the wayside many years ago.
just a thought ,sure you'll have a good hunt in sodak but plan on paying big money, folks still migrate to Winner sodak are from all over the country, big business banging rooster's there, you can contact the "rooster lounge" for local outfitter info last time I went thru town outfitters were getting anywhere from $350 to $500/per gun per day lodging not included with most,i'm told pheasant's are still good west of the missouri.
FYI
PS SODAK has over 1 million acres of public walkin land to hunt plus plus once crops are down contact south dakota game fish and parks for a free catalog of the states public hunting land, south dakota is a zoo statewide 1st two weeks of opener plus the locals get 1st crack 1 week before statewide opener so few dumb birds by the time non rez can hunt,I found it best to go in november/ dec once crops are down and cold weather has em bunched up,nice looking pup Carl.
