Meth lab? If the propane tanks were intact, what was the vapor cloud that blew up? If there was a leaking propane tank, the "Heating Mechanism" if it was on, would have consumed the vapor as it accumulated instead of waiting for the cloud density to get to a point of explosion. They may have turned the propane on for a couple minutes while they had trouble getting the lighter or matches to light and in that time the propane filled the house, but WOW would that take more than the usual amount of propane to fill a house enough to blow it up. I could easily believe something was going on where they had a cloud of something accumulate, then got cold and lit the heaters. BOOM!!! Either way, getting burned SUCKS!!!

not arguing kdm but it doesnt take much propane to cause a big explosion. the leaking propane rises and when it gets the right ratio 14/1 the propane furnace sucks the propane in and you get a ign. I know this from experiencing a propane explosion caused from a small green disposable can of propane that didnt leak for more than 30 seconds.

How do you guys like these heaters ? Have they improved since this thread or mayby there wasn't any room for improvement. I used to be just fine with propane until last year. I ended up with what Dr's first thought was pneumonia but it's a reoccurring respiratory issue that's acting like long term covid. My propane buddy heater triggers it so I'm looking at these.

On a side note, did anyone else or anyone you know catch this bug or what ever it is ? Wife told me two neighbors and quite a few others she has talked to are dealing with, or know someone dealing with the same issues. Iv'e mentioned that to multiple doctors/nurses, they act like they have never heard of it.

Several guys around my office have been coughing for weeks - probably going on 2 months of nagging coughs.

I have an LF bros. that is both 12vlt or 110. Its awesome. I haven't used in my flip over yet, but I've used it to heat under my truck topper on cold hunting and fishing trips. Unexpectedly I've mostly used it for countless other things, like warming up the engine compartment in my bobcat on super cold days, running the duct under a boat cover to thaw the ice out of my boat on cold trips and heating my garage as well. Once I figure out a better (lighter) power source I'm sure It'll replace my buddy heater in my flip over.

Curious to see how long one of these would power one of those portable diesel heaters... I looked up the specs for the one I bought and it says 12v/40w. That little battery pack is 394wh. Not sure if my math is correct, but that appears to me like it should run that heater for about 10 continuous hours. Plus, they have a portable solar panel you can buy that hooks right up to it and will charge it continuously.

I have a 5kw diesel heater in my hard shell, cooks me out of there so upgrading it to a 2kw this year. I have not been disappointed with it, but not sure I would put in a flip over.

I havent taken the time to watch any videos but it sounds like they are 100% vented . Do they always fire right up in cold temps with no smoke at all in the house ? I'll have to go utubing and watch, the vids i found were long winded and not to the point.

I have a bunch of wood to clean up this winter so I have been pondering on that but not inside a fancy fish house. we always used wood back in the day and were hot with the windows open and the floor was dry. Does anyone use a small wood burner ?

I haven't run the one that I purchased yet, but the way it is set up would lead me to believe that unless something is wrong with it, it will be clean and smoke free in the shack. The unit itself sits outside and has an exhaust pipe with a muffler. It has a heat port on it that you put a flexible plastic tube on and then run it to wherever you are trying to heat. Unless the thing is broken, all the exhaust should stay outside, and warm air would blow across an exchanger to push clean heated air into the shack. If I get time this weekend I'll fire mine up and see how it does. It's supposed to have a roughly 30 hour run time on 1 tank of fuel if I remember right and I think it's about a 1.25 gallon tank. Adjustable heat output from 2kw to 8kw i believe.

Doubt it has any relation. Pneumonia is going around..is hard to get rid of the cough and can last a while...

I put a 5kw in my hardshell house last winter. I love it. Dry heat and keeps me warm its lowest setting (obviously dependent on how cold it is outside). Windows are never icing over. It is now my primary source of heat and the furnace is my backup. My son and I went out when it was -30 last winter and it kept us warm all day and night. I dont know what took me so long to get one. I Would highly recommend.

What heater did you get ?
Leave unit outside and heat tube piped in or exhausted?

Has anyone compared these to a big buddy in the same house to compare for BTU output ? If the diesels are truly 8 kw they should produce 27297 BTUs VS Buddy @ 18000 = 5.25 KW They should produce quite a bit more heat than the buddy. At any rate , I'm going to try a Vivor thin one, mostly to warm my tractor engine and cab they look handy to have around. I wish I would have had one for the last 40 years for starting big diesel engines in the winter.
