I wonder if you will feel the same after applying for nearly 40 yrs and going 0 for 3 while some little 1st yr applicant booger eater or suzy home maker that doesn't hunt gets drawn because their daddy, hubby, or boyfriend applied for them
I applied for my 15 year old son, but I assure you he does not eat boogers.
0-2 so far, but maybe he'll draw a big horn. That would really stick in some craws. ...rofl...

I put in for my Children for years. When my Daughter drew her tag she was 17 yrs old. She went out most weekends scouting with me. Talking to landowners. The only Landowner that would let her hunt was a rancher that would not take a gratis tag. And he was nice enough to let her hunt. She shot a nice 6 x 6 full velvet bull. I also was the one that put in for my Son when he got drawn. And like his Sister he shot his own Bull.

Pretty sure my 14yr old daughter is more mature than 90% on this website.

SO what should the minimum age be to apply? Telling youth to screw off and they are not worthy is zero help to any kind of future to hunting.
I think that youth should get guaranteed deer tags till 18 not 15.

Agree with top part 100% .
I don’t think youth need to be shooting doe’s at 11 for 3 years . I would say start the youth at 14 , get guaranteed any deer tag until they are 20.

I apply for deer, pronghorn, and the big 3 behalf of my "suzy home maker" wife, who didn’t grow up hunting and had never gone before she was lucky enough to draw a mule deer tag last year. She made the most of that opportunity harvesting a buck with a perfect shot and called it one of the coolest experiences of her life.

What started as her "hubby" helping with her application turned into something much bigger. It helped create a new hunter and gave our two young kids the chance to see that their mom can step into the field and provide healthy, wild game for our family.
