SO what should the minimum age be to apply? Telling youth to screw off and they are not worthy is zero help to any kind of future to hunting.I wonder if you will feel the same after applying for nearly 40 yrs and going 0 for 3 while some little 1st yr applicant booger eater or suzy home maker that doesn't hunt gets drawn because their daddy, hubby, or boyfriend applied for them

I think that youth should get guaranteed deer tags till 18 not 15.
I apply for deer, pronghorn, and the big 3 behalf of my "suzy home maker" wife, who didn’t grow up hunting and had never gone before she was lucky enough to draw a mule deer tag last year. She made the most of that opportunity harvesting a buck with a perfect shot and called it one of the coolest experiences of her life.I wonder if you will feel the same after applying for nearly 40 yrs and going 0 for 3 while some little 1st yr applicant booger eater or suzy home maker that doesn't hunt gets drawn because their daddy, hubby, or boyfriend applied for them

I have a hard believing someone really typed out this message. Eight years before you can apply. The young gal really pulled one over on the N.D G.F. She moved here just to draw a Elk and Moose tag then left the state laughing and dancing all the way to another state.I would like to see a residency requirement of around 8 years before being able to draw the big 3.
Too many move here for couple years draw a tag and move away, one gal drew moose and elk in same year, lived here for 4 years, and left,in my mind these people are robbing tags from the true residents!!
I dont have a problem with the extra cow elk tags being once in a lifetime,if your going to settle for a cow tag in a few years, you've just settled earlier. You still got to shoot an elk!!
There’s no win to this other than a straight lottery. Every state that has a preference system sees point creep. SD has IMO one of the better systems. They allocate a small # of tags to those with little or no preference. As you have more points, there are categories where more tags are allocated to each group. It’s not perfect, but in theory the first time kid applying still has a chance. And the guy with 20 points (me) has a much, much higher chance. When tags outpace supply there is no option. I feel bad for those with lots of preference but seeing a kid who gets super lucky on his first year of applying tag a bull puts a pretty big smile on my face too. I know there are a bunch of old guys enjoying the same experience that year too and that seems to be the best middle ground IMO.I wonder if you will feel the same after applying for nearly 40 yrs and going 0 for 3 while some little 1st yr applicant booger eater or suzy home maker that doesn't hunt gets drawn because their daddy, hubby, or boyfriend applied for them
