12% of 1 dollar is .12 cents thats kind of where the goat numbers are and wyoming isnt what it used to be

I’ve shot exactly 5 ND goats 2 with a rifle and 3 with a bow NONE after 2000.

It’s gone WAY downhill!!

Access is the main reason.

Bow hunted them in the 70s with 0 success but it was a whole lotta fun . Watched them migrate in the 80s from Bowbells to past Mohall and finally past HWY 83 to the Maxbass curve on HWY 5 . Since then, I havent saw one.

Those same people doing that will say that deer meat tastes too gamey and use it as an excuse if they were mule deer to say mule deer tastes terrible.

And give some meat away to someone who's never eaten it.
Those people will likely never want to try hunting based off of that alone.

Not sure if white tail can be compared to goats but one year I shot a big ol gnarly buck in full rut that had been on the run and it tasted like shit compared to any other venison. That was back when we could get 4 extra tags and I made the mistake of filling the freezers without writing on the wrap and it sucked.

Lol I learned my lesson one year too. Back in the 90's I was a SD resident n we could get double tags east n west river. Plus back then you could buy rez tags over the counter, 1 at a time multiple times. I fed 2 roommates in college. They'd buy most everything else I provided steaks, stir-fry, n jerky. Jerky all the meat off the bucks if possible.

But there were so many deer back then in our area with the CRP and farming practices that I feel it wasn't out of line. I remember watching multiple smaller bucks trying to take over a harem of 60 does out in the harvested barley field.

Yea but this was back in the 80s , lots of moving parts caused the decline to where we are now.

Besides that, I legally fed two hungry kids off our farm when the oilfield shut down in this area. I'd do it again even without tags if we are ever faced with those kind of struggles again.

I remember back in the 80s watching the Pick ups coming up From the Rez near Four Buttes, MT. 2 guys hanging onto the Roll bar Tearing through farmers crops and Fences shooting everything they could than gathering them up and hauling tail back to the Rez, amazing how many they forgot and left behind

What you witnessed was them exercising their treaty rights as they practiced the ways of their ancestors. You pretty much had a front row seat to history!
