Anyone willing to adopt a 14yr old lab. I adopted him 2 years ago from a guy that was going in a nursing home. My lab and him are not getting along anymore and fighting all the time. My 2yr old lab is the one that starts the fight. I have been hurt a couple of time and to the emergency room I have had enough. Can anyone help

14 years is a hell of run for a lab, best of luck finding a new home for him.

Which dog hurt you? That's the dog that needs to go. If a dog is so disrespectful and filled with aggression to "lay hands" on the owner, you are NOT the pack leader in their mind and this behavior will continue. If you were the pack leader, your commands would be obeyed instantly. Disobedience in a wolf pack is dealt with immediately and severely as well as consistently and constantly. That is how canine hierarchy is set up.

The old dog I am getting between then and also sticking my hand in the mouth trying to pull op on the jaw to separate them. that's when I get bit. I have dumped water on them. Cranked my collar up to 10 and held it continuously. Did the wheelbarrow trick nothing works to break it up.

Sounds like both dogs are ignoring your commands as I assume when you attempted to intervene you were shouting commands such as their names and "no" or something similar. I would have been yelling lots of bad words as well. That said, If it were my situation, I would say goodbye to both and start over. Sorry you got hurt and have to deal with this. I hope it works out well in the end for you.

If the young dog had not been collar conditioned cranking it up and using it when he is in a aroused state wont do any thing but put him on the fight even more he is associating the shock with the old dog not you. I would be getting the young dog under serious control might need to look into an experienced dog person or a pro

Funny thing about this is when I take the younger dog to the play he gets along with the neighbors and any other dogs just fine, they play and have fun. I question if me waiting till he was 2 to neuter him is the cause. If you think about it was 2 fully intact dogs up until this spring.

IMO, the younger dog gets along with strange dogs because he is trying to be the alpha in his pack and those dogs are not in his pack or on his home territory. He should not be trying to be alpha. He should know that you are the alpha. Aggression in dogs often comes from uncertainty. The 2 year old seems uncertain of his place and is using aggression to figure it out. Until a definitive pecking order is established, I fear this situation will continue.

Neutering really does nothing unless medically needed its one of the biggest bullshit scams ever. I have aired with 20 all in tact male dogs and we dont have a problems and if any one bows up a simple no and they get on their business . Females are the ones who get in fights and when they do they do real damage. Guessing the young dog is bugging the old dog and the old dog doesnt want to play and tries to correct young dog and young does then tries to show old dog who is boss. Simple solution is just keep them apart at 14 father time isnt on the old dogs side he would get to live his days out and puppy would be learning right from wrong.
