    You can either buy the chip to use with a handheld gps or download the app on your phone. I use the phone app on an iPhone , but I know others who use it on Android. I won’t hunt away from home without it.

    I wouldn't give up on your .270. As others have said, clean any copper fouling, check the crown, check the action screws, and also check the scope mounts/bases. I had a rifle do that same thing to me. Everything seemed tight with the scope mounts, when I removed the scope to put a different one...

    Need a different pack

    I run a Mystery Ranch Cabinet. It cinches down pretty small, but has no problem packing out meat once expanded. As others have said, there are several great brands out there, I would try on a few and see what you like.

    In my case, I fenced the stalks on the south end of the quarter. There are trees and many cattail sloughs on on the north end, thats where all the habitat is, so that is not within the fence. There were people out there last weekend hunting pheasants, and it didn't seem to bother them.

    I’ll be headed back out in the next couple weeks. I was there Oct 25-28, but it was so warm with so many people. I’m hoping the weather moves them back out of the high nasty ground.

    Trigger Replacement

    +1 on the Timney, by far the best improvement I made to my rifle. Mine qualified for the recall, but you still have an X-Mark trigger in the end. It took me 15 minutes to install.

    I applied for a permit south of Butte (340-10) since that’s where my brother lives and where we’ll be hunting out of. The odds aren’t bad for that one and the only real benefit is I could take a cow during any part of the rifle season, not just the first week.
