    Beef prices going up????

My Dad says that all the time about hunting, when he sees the road hunters driving up and down the roads every morning and every night, hes like they should just buy beef, it'd be cheaper than all the gas they're burning. He also tells me that I could fatten a steer or two with all the corn I...

    Beef prices going up????

So a finished 1300lb steer is worth $2.30 per lb today to a packer. Add $1200 for processing. 1300x2.30 is 2990 plus 1200 is 4190. That 1300lb steer should have a hanging weight of 60% of its live weight that is 780lbs. I think that is a bit low, but we'll use that. $4190 divided by 780lbs is...

    Beef prices going up????

I'm skeptical that he got that price for an 1100lb holstein cross. He did sell at the high point of the market but even still I don't believe it. Right now a finished steer sold to a packer would bring $2.30 per lb. I don't remember exactly what the high was about 2 months ago, maybe $2.50 or...

    Accuphy Ping Live Sonar

my phone battery goes dead fast enough the way it is. It'd probably be fine if you're in a nice ice house but I can't imagine trying to use it outside. tablet would be froze up in the cold in no time.

    Beef prices going up????

I can tell you why I don't. I watched my Dad finish out holstein steers when he milked cows. He sold finished steers to a guy who owned a processing barn and then that guy would sell the finished animals to a consumer who would then pay him to process them. That worked ok for my Dad, but it was...

    Flip-Over Shack & Diesel Heater

Hasn't been an issue. With the windows closed I've had does go behind my blind and not scent me. I've been impressed how well the banks blind contains the scent. As for the scent going through the heater and out the chimmney, maybe as its warm air it rises high enough that they don't smell you...

    Yard wide slip'n'slide

All mist and rain here. Everything was icy this morning, even the gravel roads. Temps did get above freezing until about 2 or 3 pm. I went to town about noon, took gravel roads and they were slick, when I came home alot had melted and made driving better. Hwy 2 looked like it had been sanded and...

    Property Tax Credit

This measure was designed to prohibit the state and local governments from levying taxes on the assessed value of a home except for those designed to pay for bonded indebtedness. The measure would not prohibit taxes levied on other aspects of a home such as square footage...

    Property Tax Credit

I'm so glad you said this. Every time I hear someone say it'll eliminate property tax, I wonder how? I read it the same as you, it just eliminates taxing on assessed value, that doesn't mean they can't tax it some other way such as square footage. As vague as this is and everyone thinks the...

    Rat issue

Just one bite is the only brand I've found to work on mice and rats. Something about it they don't stink when they die, or at least I've not smelled them. Some of the rats would be dizzy and dying rolling around on the ground and would have to kill those before the dogs got them. We have...

    Hungarians

Huns seemed to have a really good hatch in my area. North Central part of state. Lots of pasture and grasslands here. Grouse seem like a poor hatch. See some grouse with just 2 or 3 chicks, others with more, quite a few with none. Turkeys also seemed to have a poor hatch and just seen one hen...

    Bad News - Ash Borer

I've planted alot of green ash in shelter belts in the last 20 years. I really hate hearing about the emerald ash borer. I knew when it was found in Winnipeg and in Moorhead that it would get here sooner or later. I'm not looking forward to all my green ash dying as I'd rather not tear out the...
