A case like this couldn't be more transparent. Other than your typical confidential court docs involving victim names and defendant's vitals, not a single document has been made "confidential". My guess is it has drug on cause of the special judge and prosecutor having to be assigned and the fact the defense isn't pushing a speedy trial cause the most serious of charges seem pretty cut and dried. He is in no hurry to hear a jury say guilty and the lock of a state penitentiary jail cell. It's not uncommon for big cases to drag out in ward county from what I've seen the last couple of years. Also... the preliminary seems like a formality at this point. From the public docs, there clearly appears to be PC for every charge.

Lincoln, kinda...
Just to add to what espringers has said, it's the defendant who is asking for closing the preliminary hearings. Ostensibly so evidence that may not be admissible in the actual trial doesn't get out and contaminate potential jurors.

The fella who wrote the article in the OP's post didn't do anyone any favors with his article.

This one seems to put it out there with a bit more clarity: https://www.kfyrtv.com/2024/06/21/preliminary-hearing-minot-murder-case-remain-open-public/

Nice to see a Profesionals point of view on these. Seems like the link is making it out into something it isn't?
