Finally git my dogs out with neighbor and some of his old friends, we only knocked down 1 rooster but the dogs worked really well for being as green as they are and needing to cover 4-5 wide. Birds were really jumpy but Baxter the younger dog pinned 3 hens on his own and the pair teamed another. Been a really tough year down here but today was a beautiful day to be out

I got a 50/50 lab/gsp for a few reasons. Nothing against Bailey the pure bred GSP but Baxter has a few small upsides
More cold tolerate
Better retriever
More willing to deal with brush and cattails
Little better skin/fur

i have nothing against pointers, know a few guys with bearded dogs that seem to be real good dogs.

the rescue mut (border collie/springer spaniel/weimaraner mix ) and i have been having a great season.

We always said you pointer dog guys can't shoot good. HA HA and that comes from my friends that are older and say they don't shoot good, love seeing mixed breed's getting it done.

I also had a great hunt with my old GSP, he has about a football sized tumor on his right side, but causes zero issues for him.
Hunted for a few hours and knocked out 13 of the 15 limit we were after. I of course took no pictures, as I guess I have the inability to remember these things. And as it turns out the relevance is negligible at this point in me and my dogs life.

I watched a German shepherd point a bird this weekend and retrieved it. Is that a pointer

Two friends have taller poodle dogs fun to watch them retrieving good eyes doves hunting down south was blast.

Thats one lucky dog , looks like he's enjoying life . My neighbor got a rescue dog a few years ago , one of the nicest dogs I have ever been around.

He is the best. Considering how his first 6 months of life started (locked up in a horse trailer, with 26 other dogs.) At the time we got him, i had just lost my grandpa unexpectedly, He was my best friend and hunting partner and things were really down for me.. Little did i know, i needed him (tucker) as much as he needed me. I really wasnt looking for a dog at the time, let alone one that i would train to hunt, but he loved to play fetch. So i trained for the hunting, revolving around the retrieving. Got him accustomed to gun noise and the rest has been easy. Each and every day we go out he gets better and better. Ice fishing has to wait, there are more bird hunts to get in before season ends. lol

I've had a fun year with my 9 year old viszla. I even forgot the remote to her collar last weekend and wouldn't have needed it anyway.
