I went to the post office yesterday to send a letter and the clerk told me that in the near future Summertime will be no overnight delivery service since the post office will be shut down completely after hours, no sorting of mail till the following morning. I believe the postal service needs to be run by either state or private sector since the post office lost something like 9.5ish billion dollars last year. Hopefully once the dust settles down things will be done to fix the problem.

There’s a lot of funky accounting that goes into how much the post office earns and loses since they share the $56 billion they earn with the general fund. Also the ebay, amazon, and political mail handshake deals for rates that the private sector (UPS, FedEx) wouldn’t touch. A North Dakota postal service has nightmare written all over it.

I know when the goat was in office last time he made the online businesss like Amazon paymore for.using the pony express. The usps really is a losing busnines considering the wages/benies to financial revenue it brings in. Privatize it is the only solution

Privatization would probably only work in large metros. Rural areas would have to have either sporadic service or massive rise in cost. It probably would work in big cities where there’s profit to be made via private courier service but rural mail would suffer.

Why do you say privatize is the only solution? To what problem?

If you want to see what privatization for package delivery has done, send something with SpeeDee Delivery. Very fast, safe, economical shipping. Sadly it is only in a limited amount of states at this time. A privately owned business started originally by a young man and his pickup and grew it from there.

Thing is USPS serves every address at a consistent rate and is able to prioritize service over profit. A private company won’t be able to do that. Rural business would take huge hits.

Agreed with mail just a few days a week, and for sure cut out all weekend delivery.

It’s the old people that want the mail 6 days a week.
My next door neighbors are in their 80s and if they don’t see the mail man 6 days a week they get pissy.

Maybe because the Minot Daily comes in the mail 🤷‍♂️

With the mail my wife and myself receive it could come 1 to maybe 2 days for us

There are already private companies to deliver your packages and letters. FedEx, UPS, Speedee, etc, etc.

They just won't do it for the price of a first class postage stamp.

Why isn't the postal service charging the same price for junk mail is they are for regular mail?

I have a friend who has been a mail carrier for a good many years. Looking to pull the plug this year. He has told me that his over time is astronomical as they are so short staffed. While the extra dollars in his checkbook is fantastic, the lack of time off is influencing his decision to retire. When I asked why no one wants to apply.......mostly because persons are required to work saturdays.
