Yep I really typed it and believe it,I think that you should have a vested interest in the state before recieving one of the big 3.
I really dont care who you are ,apply when you have met that requirement.

I don’t think youth need to be shooting doe’s at 11 for 3 years . I would say start the youth at 14 , get guaranteed any deer tag until they are 20.

My oldest daughter shot her first doe at 11 and that really hooked her for hunting, next came turkey hunting and pheasant she is 14 now and has got 3 deer with each making her more addicted to the hunt. If a kid can reasonably hunt a species and that hooks them and makes them want to be more involved then I see no reason to change that. She even decided she would rather go hunting this coming Saturday than a track meet, doing our trip we have done the last 3yrs.
We are planned to go to AZ early 2027 for sandhill crane and javelina and she is really excited. Thanks @Ericb for turning me on to looking at AZ a few years ago.
Younger daughter, 11yrs, missed her first deer last year, only 1 shot opportunity but she got to learn a lot and it wasn't lack of hunting time with each daughter. Ended up meeting a guy that does exotic rams not far from me and gave me a really good deal on one for her, he loves setting up kids on animals. Went out and after some fast paced attempts the 3rd try was the charm and I wouldn't trade that experience for anything, now she is hooked.
There are states that a 6yr old can shoot a deer and many of them continue to hunt with their parents and at least have a chance to gain intrest in conservation.
I felt that 10-11yr was reasonable for my kids, other parents might have other opinions and that is fine
If we $#!+ on our youth they are bound to return the favor.

I really hate to tell you this, I drew both a Moose and Elk and shot a 42 inch Bull Moose and a big 7x7 Elk.

I might think that a parent that let's their 5-6yr old shoot a turkey is a little young but its their call and its legal, I decided 10-12yr old on my daughter's.

I try to at least. I might be lucky in that they are smarter than me at that age.
I will say though that I do know some boys and girls my kids ages that I would really think twice on hunting ages so I guess I shouldn't paint it as a blanket statement.

Right I guess that’s kinda what I was getting at. But I’m all for getting kids involved in hunting and keeping them involved in their he outdoors

Snagged an E2 Any Elk tag this year, first of the big three for me after 30-years of applying! Pretty pumped about it! Anyone with any help in that unit, I'll take any tips or leads. Have a retired buddy that pulled a cow tag in that unit as well. As much as I love fishing, looks like lots of miles and trips west scouting this year, lots of range practice, and probably limited fall fishing. May I be graced with a nice bull to harvest come October.

That bull elk won't come easy, but the rewards of an excellent hunt make the work worth every minute of the scouting, networking with landowners, and all effort put in to the total experience! ENJOY!
