I really fish I could say the magic words of “the spawn is done” but I can’t. The cool nights and hoodie required days are keeping everyone neutral for the most part. There are starting to be positive signs, however. There are more big fish biting, and little fish are picking up as well. The numbers remain pretty average and if we could add a couple more big ones to the day it would be great.

Two patterns stuck out to me this week. Either shallower flats (3-7 feet) next to a drop off to the channel. Anchor on the top side and make sure at least one bait is off the drop the rest on the flat. The other is deeper outside bends with some current. Sit times the usual 20-30 minutes.

Sucker and goldeye are both working and people are saying if you can find frogs the fish will eat them. Suckers are also in short supply right now with unstable trapping weather and tournament season starting this week.

This week looks to have storms, and new water will be welcomed. Next week the forecast is for the 80s and that is just what we need to finish this off and get on with the season.

Good luck to all anglers in this weekends Scheels Boundary Battle Catfish Tournament
