Anyone who has been brainwashed from the chyna kool-aid telling us how superior their country's technology is to the United States one only needs to do some research to see all the law suits that have been brought to court proving one important thing, Chyna doesn't innovate on its own it steal priority software first. The real reason many American manufacturing companies went to the east to make our goods is because Chyna doesn't care about its people's welfare allowing American companies to make huge profits using cheap labor, and why they're at it we will steal American companies technology.

Why is this a race? What is the finish line? Utopia or Hell? If it’s Utopia, I don’t mind coming in second or third. If it’s Hell, let them win.

I’m old enough to remember the Cold War. “Race” to see who can blow the world up the fastest. Both sides had/have enough to obliterate the Earth. Why did we keep making more?

I do perceive this “race” more threatening. I do mean that.

Casselton-area residents question data center location on prime farmland

CASSELTON, N.D. — Caryn Weber said she is not against data centers, but questions the location of a proposed site in rural Cass County.

“It’s disturbing to see prime farmland covered up with concrete,” Weber said Thursday inside Bondegard Cafe in downtown Casselton.

Representatives of Geronimo Power, the company behind a proposed data center east of Casselton and north of Mapleton, answered questions about the Harmony Energy Park project at the cafe.

Data centers have become a main topic of discussion in North Dakota with more events on deck in Cass County.

Tuesday, the Legislature’s Artificial Intelligence and Data Center Committee meets at 9 a.m. at Grand Farm, near Casselton. The agenda includes water use by data centers, data center impact on local government and testimony from utility officials.

The following week, on Oct. 14, North Dakota State University is hosting a data center discussion in Fargo. “Powering the AI Economy: Data Centers and North Dakota’s Future” will be hosted by NDSU’s Challey Institute for Global Innovation and Growth. The event is in the NDSU Memorial Union starting at 5:30 p.m.

Panelists include North Dakota Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring and Paul Matthys, president and CEO of Cass County Electric Cooperative.

Goehring, a Republican, is being challenged by Democrat Vern Thompson, who has made data centers a top issuein the ag commissioner race.

North Dakota residents have expressed concerns about noise, water use, utility rates and the loss of farmland.

Doesnt Fargo have a huge water problem that we all had to put a giant diversion in to help elevate?
Seems water use would be a benefit to that soggy area.

I interviewed for a job way back when with the only question being “Can you read a tape measure?”…probably not many of those will be replaced by ai…
Not replaced, but AI, cameras, microphones may well weed out the 7 out of 10 that in fact cannot read a tape measure

the farmland argument is one of the stupidest around, datacenters arent taking millions of acres, they are just a few buildings. Theres endlessly more farmland used each year to build houses on than there ever will be for datacenters. Also we already grow way too much food, so much so that the govt has to subsidize farmers just to keep them in business. Its a stupid argument all the way around, but the emotionals are buying it, I see it posted way too much.

Farm land does a better job of being habitat for animals than data centers do so for that reason fuck data centers
