Remember when deer hunting was a big thing? Kids would stay home from school, adults would have the day off etc to hunt. I was out in the country today south of minot for hours, delivering shit and saw 1 group of 2 guys walking a tree row, that's it. Guess times have changed.

I remember it well.

I look at young kids nowdays a see the majority are Pudgy.

Pudgy at a young age does not bode well for them in the future for hunting.

Mn gun starts tomorrow. I'll be surprised if I see 20 people dressed in orange out in the fields.
Gets less and less every year.

Im sitting in a MN gathering spot right now. Full of hunters. Different over here though as it's basically heated stand hunting. People are out and about though. The Klobachar bashing is refreshing

Family farms went away. Sloughs went away. Fencelines went away. Tree rows and groves went away. Drain tile started. Government handouts to farmers exploded and now here we are. Only folks with tags are the roaming gratis holders with low populations. Congratulations

I remember those days ,that was when I never shot a deer because I was beating the heavy timber and brush. I saw nice bucks circle back behind the chase. The old timers only knew one way to hunt, it was fun but not fun being a grunt. Im petty sure most of us have shot more deer sitting and waiting than trying to chase them .

So I started hunting in 94. Almost everything was done with deer drives and some road hunting at times. I did do a little sitting and waiting but was to impatient back then. Bow hunting taught me alot about patience and sitting quietly.
Then baiting really caught on in the 2000s, more land became posted as people put up blinds, bait piles, and cameras. Less people walking and doing drives.
Now today rifle season seems its all about road hunting in my area. Rarely do you see anyone walking anything.

There was something special about 30 years ago when everyone was out. Might meet up with another group or two mid-afternoon to push something way too big for a handful of guys...always at least one idiot in that extended group.🤣

Sometimes the best part of the day was finding 40 guys dressed in orange in the bar shooting the shit, lying about the day, and rolling dice for the round...

This is more than a little annoying...the circled column is tags awarded in resident drawing. The column to the left is non-resident reduction. Were a small handful of non-residents awarded tags where residents were rejected completely?

Looks like those were non-resident gratis tags. Quick math telks me only 92 non-resident tags were awarded through the lottery.

Never participated in the gratis lottery but I will next year. It's pretty shameful what the dollar does. Big farms big money big insurance..pure greed

I remember hunting with my Dad, Brother, and Uncle every year. I remember how bringing the youngsters along was the main goal and having a good time the results. I remember beating the brush, being on stand, missing 18 boxes of shells worth of ammo and then finally connecting on a deer. I remember being asleep until about 4am today. I remember getting up because I am going with a young man who can't feel his legs and is in a wheelchair to watch him try to take a doe. I remember his face when he shot his first buck. I remember there is always someone who's life is more difficult than mine. I remember that there is always something I can do to make someone else's life better. I remember a man, who was nailed to a cross, who commanded us "to love one another as I have loved you. I remember to be thankful for the blessings I have been given and I try to remember that memories first have to be lived and that the older generation made sure that I experienced life so I could have memories and that now it's time for me to pass that opportunity on the the next generation. Good Luck and post the memories that were made this season.

Sat last night for a couple hours and I don't think I heard another shot and I'm in an area with a decent amount of plots/state sections. It is kind of sad with the tag reductions how a generation of hunters is being lost.

I remember about 20 years ago, give or take, a thread on fishing buddy “are we living the good old days of deer hunting”

We definitely were!!

I’m probably done hunting deer in ND. Just my choice
